There's nothing wrong with that. But from what the OP said, it sounded like there was a lot of discussion, speculation and confusion about it.

I can venture a guess. But I'd never seen the name prior to the material around the show. Not all of us are from Cali. And it never bothered me personally enough to look it up.

Yeah, it's okay to not know and to not care. That wasn't my point. My point was Markonia's post seemed to imply that "WE" wanted to know how it was pronounced. As if there was some kind of group or collective uncertainty that needed to be resolved.

If there was even a brief conversation between more than one person about it, I find that insane.

But, all day long across the internet I see people post, "Gee, who was the first vice president of the united states" style inquiries when they would literally have their answer if they just typed those same words into their search bar instead creating a post about it.

So, I saw the Pilot...

I think I found my favorite show of New Trek.
For me it has everything that is missing from the other shows - it looks, sounds and feels like it should for a series set during this timeframe without any edgy new interpretations. The Ship looks like a Star Trek Ship, the Sets, the Props
It was like a regular episode, just crammed into 30 Minutes and playing on fast forward.

Sure the characters are a bit over the edge, but it is a animated show for kids with a myriad of easter eggs and call backs for the old guard.
You can clearly see that it is made by someone who loves TNG and knows it inside and out.

I like it a lot and if you don't like, just ignore it. The world would be boring if all of us would love the same things. No need to hate it. The world ist cruel and dark enough so I don't spend my energy and hate. And sorry if my english sounds weird, it is not my native tongue.

I watched it during my lunch.

I love the concept behind it, not just the lower decks but that it is class "warfare" lower decks VS upper decks, focusing on the hubris of the command crew. Reminds me a lot of how The Last Jedi (which I loved) took down the Jedi a couple pegs, which IMO they deserved. But I felt it rejected it's own premise where at the end of the episode, the lower deck crew itself didn't give a crap about their co workers who were eaten alive. No mention of them at all. I know it's a comedy cartoon but that killed the lower vs upper to me and made it more about just personal disgust.

Most importantly, I didn't laugh once

I'll keep watching though.

Edit:. For 0nce I'm ok with small universe syndrome because it's again showing the flaws of Starfleet with its embrace of nepotism

TNG is my top teir, and after that it flucuates depending my mood. Ofte. Times Enterprise pops into 2nd place...I like how simple and easy going the show feels at times.

Same. I discovered Trek through TNG, not TOS, so its my favorite, but my 2nd favorite series is probably ENT, even though I've probably watched more VOY episodes. I like the TNG visual style of LD, and based off the first episode, it didn't seem terribly iconoclastic. It's kind of poking fun at Trek in a fun-loving way.

Pros: Great theme song and intro; Good script, good animation, cast diversity, action, enough deep cut Trek nods to keep the fans happy.
Cons: Some line delivery (too fast), too many things going at once (plot-wise) for a half-hour show, Mariner

I understand the need to set her up as a brash trouble maker with a golden heart, but I really hope that week after week there isn't a "this is another fine mess you've gotten us into" plot line with the character. I hope they will allow her to develop and gel with the other cast so they come together as a team.

I get it. It's a cartoon. So I have to look at it as such. Sure, TAS was a cartoon, but it was aimed at a more cerebral audience.

I'm sure this has been asked, but despite the more comedic nature of the show, is it going to become canon?

The episode may have been more enjoyable without Mariner because, man, couple minutes in and I wanted to see her tossed out an airlock.

Whereas, she's my favorite character so far.

Same here. Very fun and enjoyable. Kind of reminds of an older Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes.

Is the joke supposed to be that she's giving him obvious advice or asking about things everyone knows? I mean, I guess that's at least a PREMISE for a joke, but it's not structured or delivered like one at all. But the fact that she declares herself his mentor isn't supposed to be funny in and of itself at all.

Then she just randomly asks him if he's "heard of" a laundry list of real Trek characters. Why? Why would anyone do that? It makes no sense and is unmotivated by their conversation. It's just an excuse for some of the worst name-dropping I've ever heard. And it was pitched at her character's loudest, most intense volume, which is saying a lot.

I got the impression it was supposed to be garbage knowledge "Klingons like to fight! Have you heard of these couple people everybody has heard of? This chick had an awesome body!" Just like earlier Boimler included Earth and Vulcan on the list of planets he's been to.
To me it was pretty funny

It struck me as a typical nerd nerding out by rattling off a long list of facts they had memorized but might not be common knowledge.

I chuckled.
