The first animated Trek series in almost 50 years is finally here. Lower Decks is the anti-Trek, featuring four lowly ensigns on a not-very-important support ship with their not-very-important yet hopefully amusing hijinks taking front and center over the main action with the bridge crew. The show takes place in 2380, about a year after Nemesis.

There have also been some concerns about the comedic tone of the show and how it fits with the rest of Trek. What they actually do remains to be seen but I'd say think of Lower Decks as a bit "meta". It basically happened but we're seeing things from a more animated and comedic perspective. Or just forget about it and kick back and enjoy. It's probably not very important.

I'm really curious how this one will go. I've never seen an episode of Rick and Morty so I'm coming in pretty ignorant of McMahn's style. Hopefully it will be fun.

I saw 1x01 and 1x02 yesterday during the digital premiere. Both are fantastic, Episode 2 really knocked it outta the park.

Show has amazing Trek vibes while also being comedically entertaining. I think people are gonna love this show a lot...and I'm theorizing were gonna have a Dave Filoni situation with people calling for Mike McMahon to take over all of Star Trek.

Also, the intro song/visuals are pretty damn good.

This is a really good endorsement, man, thank you. I’ve always trusted your opinions on Trek. You just kicked my excitement up a notch!

Just so we can get a gauge of where you're coming from, what Trek do you love and what Trek do you...like less?

Hey, this is my first one of these in 3 years :)

    Onwards and upwards.

Nice to hear. I still feel I'm not the target audience for this but I'm going to watch new Trek material and give it a try.

Thanks for you short review, @Ketwolski! Sounds very promising. :bolian:

This piqued my interest. Do you mean “song” as in “with sung lyrics”? :shifty:

Thank you so much! Maybe this will be really the first product of the Kurtzman era I will not feel like forcing myself to like it...

Animated shows like this can be senselessly funny as long as they have heart. I’m no R&M fan, but the last animated comedy series I loved to death was probably Futurama, and that had plenty of heart. If this show can keep an eye on its heart while a tongue is in its cheek, I think it’ll do fine.

August 6th, but I don't know if that means midnight tonight, or 2 am in the morning or tomorrow afternoon. They could sometimes be all over the place.

    ST:LD may follow suit.

I'm debating in my mind about whether or not to re-up my CBS:AA subscription ...

While the previews so far haven't really peaked my interest, it is very exciting to know that there's going to be more new Trek for the next few months into 2021.

I'm hoping that CBS puts the first episode up on Yt so I can make up my mind one way or another.

No way I'm staying up till 3AM, but I usually wake up by 6:30, and at 30 minutes I'll be able to fit it into my morning no problem.
