Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

To me, it's glorified fanfiction.
There's fanfic out there that would put published novels to shame. There are also published novels out there that put both authors and publishers to shame. 'Fanfic' isn't an insult. It's not all written by 12-year-olds any more. And getting something published isn't always a sign of quality.

Also, tie-in novels can be excellent. Una McCormack's prequel for this show certainly is!

There’s nothing in that link that expands on the part you quoted. The guy evaded the question. Not sure why we all see that and you don’t.
Nope, I KNOW a lot of you were wrong on this point, resoundingly so, but at least acknowledge it when it's written in black and white from the sources.

1. What “point” are you talking about?

2. Sorry you don’t see that the guy evaded the question, but constantly telling us we’re wrong doesn’t make you any more right.

3. Since you’re apparently so much smarter than I am, please tell me the exact words Dekovic said that actually answered the question posed to him, because I’m apparently too ‘resoundingly’ stupid to see it for myself. By all means, enlighten me.

Respectfully, the interview reads as a PR speak way to answer the question without answering the question. To me, "Even after a US Naval Academy Instructor explains, why it is possible," says "See, this other person has provided a reasonable explanation of why it could be that way," but does not say "This other person explains why it is possible, and that is the reason we went that direction." Saying someone else has provided a rationalization is not the same as providing an explanation of why the Picard team did it that way. The interviewer was asking for a behind-the-scenes explanation as to why exactly that scene was put together the way it was which was not answered. And I say that as someone who generally has no issue with the scene in question.

We all are, apparently.

Go look up the word: "Definitively".

Then read the quote again.

Then go look up the CDC guidelines on Covid. Hopefully, you believe in that...

Five people told you you were wrong, and yet you still maintain that he didn't dodge the question? It was like when you posted those false differences on the Copy/Paste fleet and everyone told you you were wrong, but you refused to see it. You can keep telling us we’re wrong, but it doesn’t make you right.

The guy shrugged his shoulders and dodged the question, it's literally there for all to see. But again at least they're aware of the fan backlash and they might try harder next time.

Don't you use the same tact often? You won't change anyone's opinion that doesn't want it changed..........so let's not get all spun up again.

Yeah, it seemed like a dodge to me too. Trying to find an excuse why it was possible after the fact. Trek always uses multiple ship types when models are available to do so. It seemed here they just weren’t interested.

Fingers crossed they come up with more next season.

More disturbing for me was the look of the ships themselves.in the way the Federation has devolved a bit, it seems it’s ships also did. They seem more fluid yet less advanced to my eye? Too much stylization. Makes them more general scifi blah.

100% agree.

It doesn't help that the space visuals are so poorly framed and badly lit that you can barely make out much of the ship anyway

Why would they be? The story is about Starfleet suffering loss of ships. Why would they have multiple models available?
As opposed to fleets of countless state of the art most powerful ships ever at the ready when and wherever? No.

Also, this series is nowhere near about “ship shortages,” decades later, even when the issue then was manpower post synth ban. It’s the exact opposite — not tech, character. Ships were an afterthought and the time devoted to showed loud and clear. The delight of the series for me was the writing and characters and themes, so I don’t really detract much from it its dropping the ball on ships atm. But they certainly did, and I’ll judge Them more harshly next season if more care isn’t applied there.
