Dune 2018 (19,20,21...)

I can only repeat myself.. release the damn trailer already!:lol:

Let us judge for ourselves if it's Oscar material and complain about every second of the trailer that it doesn't adhere to some obscure sentence in one of the expanded material books ;)

WHY ISN'T PAUL PRACTICING HIS ZERO G JUGGLING AND MIMING?!?! HE'LL NEVER BE LET BACK IN THE SPACE CIRCUS!

I'm always amused by Fandom reactions when beloved books are adapted.

It happened during Lord of the Rings and the rage was strong about this one when it became known that some book scenes didn't make it into movies, some characters didn't appear or had their actions rolled into one of the characters who would be in the movie etc

Nothing of this changed the tone or the general direction of the movie which still adhered to the books closely enough to follow the main storyline.

I expect the same happening with Dune - i myself may be disappointed if some favorite scenes of mine won't make it or are changed but to this date i have never gotten the pitchfork and lit the torches. Given the production staff, Villeneuve at the front, and the quality of the cast i'm very optimistic.

Well, if this movie doesn't have a recreation of Emperor Shaddam's conversation with the Guild Navigator from the Lynch film, complete with the Navigator saying he's been to Ix and that "there are many machines on Ix," my next move will be to come into this thread and rage about how the movie got all the essentials wrong and takes a piss all over Frank Herbert's legacy. Then I'll be sure to see the movie another five times in theatres (at minimum) and buy the Blu-ray when it comes out just to make sure my hatred is thorough and I don't miss anything to bitch about.

;)

They just better keep all the hats from the Syfy mini-series or I'll be pissed!

what? why no it's NOT the only Galifreyan thrift store hat in SyFy's dune. But it's the only gold one.

With all the costume weirdness (I heard the original costume designer quit unexpectedly leaving them to scramble) , it's still a better dune than anything Keven J Anderson and the Abomination have touched. Children of Dune was much better.

I honestly loved all the crazy hats and costumes in the miniseries. They were just so over the top and ridiculous it was awesome.

So since the trailer was rumored to be attached to Tenet what does this mean now that Tenet is delayed indefinitely? Mulan is the next big blockbuster scheduled to be released but its target demographic doesn't exactly overlap much with the SF audience.

I'm curious if they are still sticking with the Christmas release for Dune in which case it is really time to start marketing this to the general audience.

Its also rumoured to be attached to Inception. If 8tncome sto it they can just release it online but who knows if they even want to when it could be delayed yet too

"don't you dumb white motherfukka's know that place was called 'Crime Alley' for a reason? What did you think was going to happen when you parade through it with your fur coats and pearl necklaces?!"

I don't know at what point it changed in the comics but up until at least COIE Crime Alley was the name given to Park Row. The name was given because of the murder of the Wayne's in the affluent and "safe" neighborhood.

They're definitely dropping the ball if there's no trailer at virtual Comic-Con this week. I mean, even if they were planning Tenet to be the official launch of the full trailer, they should still have had a teaser or trailer for the trailer planned for virtual Comic-Con.

Unless they're considering waiting until Dec 2021 now:shrug:

Tenet is a big film, but it's also a one off.

They want Dune to be a franchise.

I could see Tenet taking Dune's place to push Dune further back and give it the best chance of a massive opening.

I checked the schedule earlier today here is a panel for the Dune books and comics, but nothing for the movie. The books and comic panels seem to have nothing to do with the movie, so I doubt we'll see a trailer or anything there.

Whether or not there's a trailer is I think more of an indication of just how confident they are that the movie will be released as advertised. If the US doesn't alter it's behaviour drastically, I have a hard time seeing going to the cinema over there being a viable option for any non-morons within the next 6 months.
I wouldn't be surprised if Hollywood backs off on promoting a lot of upcoming releases and just holds them all back until next year. After all, no point hyping movies that won't be released until next spring or summer.

I know it really shouldn't be a caveat, but given the full breadth of utter stupidity I've seen them get up to on the other side of the pond, it does feel rather necessary.
No, I laugh because I went to a theater recently. Maybe 6 people in there, all precautions in place, masks, sanitization, etc. Nice way to see Lord of the Rings though.

So, I guess I'm the moron ;)
