I think we will see Spock at least referenced in Season 3 of Discovery. I'm sure Burnham and the others as well would be more than curious to find out what happened to their loved ones and friends they left behind. If Dax is around she/he should at least be able to fill her in especially since she thought Spock was hot.

Seeing as how the Federation seems to have fallen I don't think it can be said she saved it in the past unless they reset time and push a giant reset button. It's a shame though Andromeda and even Agents of Shield already beat them to the punch on this concept but hopefully Discovery will find it's own twist on the idea of going to a bleak distant future and providing hope and help to change things.

No doubt she'll single-handedly save the past present and future of the Federation in season 3
So, just like Kirk, saving civilization as they know it once again.

I don't quite understand this...because others have done it before Discovery shouldn't do it? The whole idea of telling stories is to give them your own unique twist. Star Wars is just the Hero's Journey with lasers. I don't think anyone is complaining that Lucas wasn't the first to write that story.

No I think they should do it. I was just sort of commenting on how others got their first and Discovery will need it's own spin on the idea. More of a observation than a complaint or dig. Granted it's wasn't a particular deep observation but I guess I just typed it anyways for reasons only my brain knows and isn't telling me.:)

My brain does that all the time...

It's basically a badly written character - male or female - that's too perfect, inexplicably good at everything, has no flaws, makes no mistakes, is never seen to struggle, is the focus of all plots and is loved by everyone. While this is a real literary trope, I agree calling it a "Mary Sue" has sexist connotations and seems to target women, allowing trolls to attack any female protagonist with that label.

Yeah, that's the problem, because the label does legitimately apply to self insert characters like Wesley Crusher, but it now gets used as coded sexism to mean "Any competent female".

Kirk is captain of the Enterprise.

Burnham is a science officer.

TOS was written and filmed 50 years ago.

Just because something was written 50 years ago doesn't make it ok in 2020.

Again, the magic "It's 2020!" What makes it less okay in 2020?

And did you have an issue with Saving The Day in 2000 or 1990? What did you think when Archer saved the day? Or was that not acceptable in 2004? Hell, what did you think of Kirk saving the day in 2009?

What makes it less okay in 2020?

Because television story-telling and production have come a fair way since 1966. The excuse of "well Kirk did it!" doesn't work.

Plenty of other captains have saved the day. Burnham has started a war with the Klingons, ended that war, saved the galaxy from annihilation by being the Red Angel, all in the space of 29 episodes. I assume the fate of the Federation in the future will rest solely on her shoulders.

Sisko started a war with the Dominion and ended the war. Became Jesus to an entire race of people while keeping his day job, and he (wait for it) died to save those people in a battle involving lots of magic but it's okay he's in heaven and happy. Oh and don't forget the time he stopped an unstoppable Jem'Hadar fleet by praying really hard.

Sisko didn't singlehandedly start the war, and he certainly didn't end it. He's also in a pretty important position, unlike Burham, you know, being Emissary of the prophets and in charge of a strategical space station. He's also a great, likeable character.

Burnham is a science officer who in the space of 29 episodes, started and finished a war, and saved the galaxy from anhilitaion by flying around in a time travelling angel suit. The fact that she's a bland, unbearably tedious character doesn't help either. Will she save the universe in the next 15 episodes? It wouldn't surprise me.

I wasn't big on Sisko.

I'm bigger on Michael than I was on Sisko.

Fair enough, different opinions and all that.

I liked Burnham... while she was on Shenzhou before that first trip in the asteroid belt. Capable, natural, able to have a laugh. Then she turned into a robot, imo. I also can't stand SMG's acting, which doesn't help.

Again, the magic "It's 2020!" What makes it less okay in 2020?
Because in 2020 it's bad for reasons.

Never mind that it's used to excuse pretty much Trek that people like vs. Trek that people don't like. That's just highly convenient and is not a double standard at all.
