Spoilers Batwoman - Season 1

So you were somehow watching a bizarro version of the first season with "Landon", "Meredith," "Sloan", "Charlotte" etc. as the main characters then?

This comeback isn't applicable because Ryan Wilder is not a placeholder character name, nor does the character exist anywhere outside of the Arrowverse.

Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries made her up at the suggestion of Greg Berlanti.

Ryan Wilder seems like a real name they would use but it's a really silly name. The character is suppose to be a little wild so they call her "Wilder." It's as if they were writing for a comic book character or something.:)

Straight from Caroline Dries herself (emphasis mine):
"I’m inventing a whole new character who in her past was inspired by Batwoman, so she will take on the mantle and is completely maybe not the right person at the time to be doing it, so that’s what makes it fun.”

Shoot a couple of new framing scenes of Deadpool sitting on a bench eating chocolates and telling the story of the movie to strangers, and it'll probably make half a billion at the box office. Well, post-CoVID, maybe only a third of a billion.

You do realize she can do this and use "Ryan Wilder" as a placeholder.

In my observation, the "placeholder" thing is commonly seen on casting sheets, not after an actor is actually chosen and announced. I don't think there's any reason to think Leslie is playing anyone other than Ryan Wilder.

"Pllaceholder names" get replaced when official casting announcements are made, but in this case, every piece of released information, both official and unofficial, about the character that Javica Leslie was cast to play - from the casting sides right up to the official announcement of her casting - has consistently referred to said character as Ryan Wilder (no quotation marks, no asterists, no ampersands).

I don't think the character should have been created, but even I can see that there has been zero subterfuge involved in the search for someone to bring her to life.

Exactly.

And, as I noted, even the casting sides here didn't try to use any name other than that of Ryan Wilder.

So that, as they say, is that.

i still don't understand why Sophie couldn't take over? She seems most qualified, and the easiest to write a transition for??

What do you guys think? Would you have referred that (given the circumstances) or an all-new character?

Sophie is boring is my main guess. Now having Alice takeover would be interesting. She is the best character on the show by a wide margin.
