It is not in any way an irrational or knee-jerk reaction to give up on a series like Batwoman over a creative decision that hits a gigantic reset button and makes an entire season's worth of character development and plot narrative completely meaningless.
Yes, you're being irrational and knee jerky.
You keep frothing at the mouth about them resetting everything even after TPTB said they weren't. They're bringing in a new character to replace Kate not wiping everything out and starting over from square one. The remaining characters will be the same characters from season one just dealing with a new person.
It's not the actress; it's the character.
Seems more like you only care that the main character's name is Kate Kane. Especially with the "just plop another actor in" attitude.
I bet if Rose's Batwoman ended up having to have a different name due to some behind the scenes legal reason you'd have thrown a hissy fit about it and declared your refusal to watch the show because of "THEY NOT USING THE RIGHT NAME!!1!!1! FAKE BATWOMAN!!11!11!".
Myself and many others were more than prepared to accept a new performer stepping into the role of Kate Kane in place of Ruby Rose
It would end up being a different character anyway. The new actor would give their own interpretation that would different from Rose's. Which of course would lead to you lot whingeing non-stop about the new actor not playing her correctly.
To be brutally honest, having a new character instead of just plopping a new actor into the Kane role is a better idea for two major reasons. One being it opens up the casting net much wider to all ethnic groups. Which they've already taken advantage of. The second being it'll extend the show's longevity by having the Batwoman mantle passable to others. Actor wants to move on, pass the cowl and cape to somebody else
but to completely take the Kate Kane character out of her own show
The show is called
Batwoman not
Kate Kane.
Someone being Batwoman is the bit the show has to maintain. Not who that person is.
How do you know?
There are shows that have swapped out leads and they've done just fine.
we consequently have no desire to watch the series without her in cape and cowl.
Childish inflexibility to not give something new a chance because it's not what you self righteously dictate it should be isn't something to be particularly proud of.
It will be an interesting move since every character on the show has a relation with Kate, including a guy we never see Bruce Wayne.
Connections between people in real life abruptly end for one reason or another. Why is it so strange for the same thing to happen in a fictional world?
