Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

The battle of copyelius wasn't even a battle, just a standoff, so we don't know if these ships have different abilities (one with more weapons, another with better maneuverability, etc)

you can have the same warp nacelles, power reactor etc, and it look different, for purpose like a Science, border patrol, explorer etc. with keeping the same basic parts, like the Cheyenne, New Orleans, Nebula taking parts and design cues from the Galaxy class, but the look Different!!

That's what good sci-fi designers would do for sure, Eaves hasn't got a clue about creating new classes with a common design language. Look at all his Federation ships on Discovery, all of them styled completely differently. Like they were made by 6 different designers.

Do you need to bring that up in every single ship thread you post in? I'm sorry but it's getting annoying.

But fine, you want comparisons? Lets bring this to TNG Era, what common design language do the Intrepid, Sovereign, Defiant, Nova, Prometheus and Galaxy Class share?

They all appeared within 10 years of each other in universe, while in real life 3 of them were designed by the same person, 3 were two separate people.

Or TOS Movie era
The Oberth, Connie Refit and Excelsior. Now the connie and excelsior a few decades apart in universe, but we don't know how old any the DSC designs are, or how far apart in age they are in universe.

My point is, Starfleet has always had wildly different designs serving at the same time as each other.

Three of them were designed by the same person.
It's different because it's TNG which is above reproach it feels like at times.

Personally, I think the ships in both PIC and DSC work fine in context.

I like Eaves’s designs for the DSC ships (minus the Discoprise), but I would like them better as ships that came after TOS, not ten years before it.

I would have preferred if those designs had been 24th Century ships too, but I also don't think the difference is so stark that it truly breaks continuity or is worth feeling alienated from the show over. DIS is a good show with good writing; I don't have to agree with every single subjective aesthetic choice for me to enjoy it. I can squint and suspend disbelief.

But you have to remember, the Connie is 10 years old by the time DSC starts, so technically these DSC designs ARE post-TOS design aesthetic (if you ignore the DSC connie changes)

Look how much the TNG Era designs changed after the Enterprise-D launched. Voyager launched only 8 years after the Enterprise-D for example, and it has an almost a completely different design aesthetic.

It isn't unprecedented in-universe to have radical design changes in starfleet design.

So is the defiant for probably the same reasons.
The Defiant is ugly and a design that I would have preferred not have come about in the Star Trek world.

It strains suspension of disbelief at times for me with that design and ship capabilities. Yes, I am aware of all the in universe rationales given.

Well they all have red bussards, blue warp coils, as opposd to Eaves, greebly mishmash of nacelles with red, yellow or blue bussards, for starters.

The registries of all six ships use the same font and colour treatment, with the possible exception of the Defiant.

The hull markings are all the same, the UFP stripe etc. Escape pods the same colour for most.

And the fact that they're all from different shows, made in different times, by different people excuses any design differences.

The 6 ships I mentioned were literally made by the same person, at the exact same time. He could built his own design language and lineage, but he didn't.
