Comparing to the windows, the struts look like there might be plenty of space for a turbolift. If not, well...you have to walk and climb to get to the nacelles on a Galaxy, same deal here.

I think it looks fine for its purpose. In keeping with TNG but just slightly goofy enough to reflect cartoonish sensibilities.

Hey, all - having been inspired by the new design, I decided to take my shot at some schematics for it, in an effort to try to make sense of some of the shapes. Admittedly, it is a crude representation and I very likely made it a bit more sleek and interesting than the real thing is going to be, and I'll likely hate myself in a month once we all realize how much I got wrong! I held off on doing aft and keel views for this reason. I probably won't spend too much time on it, as Eaglemoss will probably wind up doing a treatment of it, and we'll see what it really looks like.

The saucer is an amalgamation of the Niagara and Freedom class saucer templates that I pulled from the old Trebuche line of ships. The details, pylons, engines and central bit is me. The engines definitely have a Disco-era feel to them, with the hard-angled nacelles and multiple bussard placements in the front. Other than that, this is all 24th century. I also reversed the insets under the saucer to make them look like little phaser strips (which is what I think they were actually going for there). Not sure where the torpedo launchers are yet, probably in the sensor pod. Not too much detail to work with yet...

in any case, here it is, a TrekBBS exclusive. Knocked it out in a couple of hours. Enjoy!

Looks like the perfect ship for the “Second Contact” type of missions they're going to be doing on Lower Decks. I also dig the retro/vintage quality of the poster artwork. Looking forward to the show!

Nice! Although I think the saucer is more flat, and the pod is raised a little rather than parallel to the nacelles.

I flipped a coin on the pod orientation. It may very well be raised up a bit. I can’t be 100% certain. I remember having a similar reaction when I saw the NX for the first time - I couldn’t really tell if the aft pod was below or aligned with the center line of the ship until we first saw the Enterprise pilot on screen. Same thing here. I have a feeling correcting that will be the least of my worries.

Re. The flatter saucer- I’m thinking this is a highly stylized version of what the final version is going to look like. It doesn’t really make sense to have multiple rows of windows like that with such a flat saucer. Take the Galaxy, for example, which has several rows of windows, each row representing a deck. If the saucer is that flat, it would all be one deck, and the windows would be in the floor. “What about the Enterprise-J”, one might ask? It indeed does appear to have a similar situation going on with saucer flatness and windows, but we should remember that it is a ship from many hundreds of years in the future, and at least 10 times the size of a Galaxy class. It may very well have a very different kind of internal structure. This ship is the same size or slightly smaller than a Galaxy and that kind of layout wouldn’t work by known 24th century conventions, taking this ship’s other contemporaries into account.

At this point, we’ll just have to wait and see what this thing really looks like close up. There are just too many unknowns right now.

You’re right, it does look a lot like the old Ranger class. It even has the flat saucer and cut-out in the warp nacelle pylon. You may have something there...

I like your interpretation of the ship very much bro!
My thinking is that the pod is up slightly (although you interpretation of being inline I like better), and the nacelles are not tapered, at least not in that they so in that perspective (again I like your choice in doing so).
As for the top of the saucer, I say you were a tad too conservative with it, but to tell you the truth, it will probably, and most likely in fact, be simpler in actuality.

I like the ship. Reminds me of a Galaxy-class crossed with the Oberth-class and the NX-class. It would not have looked out of place in some of the background scenes in later seasons of DS9.

We went around the placement of the deflector (and possible torpedo launchers) in the LD thread. It looks to be even harder to get to the bottom section than in an Oberth, but it's 2380, so site-to-site transport is way more likely. Plus there are probably a few people stationed down there during each shift.

Since I saw the ship, I have been wondering if it is hauler of some kind. The detail under the saucer looks like an attachment point for something. If that's the case, it would explain the big space between the saucer and the engines.

Honestly, I really love it. The design appeals to me in a way a lot of TNG era ones don't. Excellent work in such a short time.
