Stay-at-Home Thread

Sometimes I’ll be reading about the newest thing online and hubs will remind me about my reading backlog which remains- backlogged. It’s a good problem to have!

btw Betsy and Kwannon have been split- Betsy is the New Capt Britain while her bro is being held in thrall by Morgan Le Fay and Kwannon is leading a new X-Force team.

Diversity and inclusion are all over comic books these days. Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz were the latest Green Lanterns to be introduced, last time I caught up.

I forgot to mention TV characters. CW's Batwoman is gay, played impressively by Ruby Rose. She will be missed. Aren't Sarah Lance and John Constantine bisexual?

There's even a couple of openly gay superheroes, modeled after Batman and Superman. Edit: Apollo and Midnighter.

It IS a wonderful time to be a comics fan!

Starting today we have to wear masks all of the time in public, walking outside. I understand but it is so hot here and I don't like to wear things on my face. It is so tiring and frustrating. Also I just learned I may not get to see my mom (who lives in an assisted place) for the rest of the year!! Just thru a window. I am beside myself with sadness right now! It has already been nearly 5 months now since I have seen her or anything!!

Perhaps your mom and you could use a video chat?
I haven't seen my parents since Christmas but my mom recently learned how to send emails :D She's growing into quite a spammer, heehee.

I use masks made after this pattern. Even without a nose clip they sit tight enough to not make glasses fog over. And the design offers room enough for you not to perspire too much.

I ordered games from a company at the start of lockdown for son and myself to play while in lockdown. That was three months ago
I have tried to contact them 4 times all up but not once did they email me back or phone me. I ended up putting in a claim to PayPal. 4 of the 6 items arrived last Thursday. The package was poorly wrapped and the boxes the Yahtzee pads came in were crushed. I sent the firm a message asking where were the other items and could I either have a tracking number for the other two items or a refund For them. Have not heard back concerning that email.

PayPal has just emailed me to tell the full amount today so I have will have an extra $106. I am disappointed I never got Upwords :( I love that game. I might buy myself some more jigsaw puzzles. Even though restrictions are being lifted in Tasmania I am still planning to stay at home except when it is really necessary for me to go out.

Perhaps you could get the game from a different supplier? If I am not mistaken it's identical with Scrabble and such a classic should be available from a lot of sources.
Some photo companies offer to make jigsaw puzzles from your own photos. I have a few really tricky ones made from pictures I took on my last vacation. It's fun to have a reminder of a nice day plus a challengenging puzzle that nobody else has.

From a business trip to Japan, my sister brought me a pack of origami paper and the instructions for folding 10 different flowers of which I previousely knew only one. It's fun to learn making pretty things and origami has always been one of my favourite pastimes when I was a kid. I'll make lots of flowers the next few days and pin them to a straw wreath to hang on my apartment door =)

No, it is different from Scrabble because you change the the words up by stacking letters on top of each other. It seems that Hasbro no long makes Upwords. I looked on many sites for it but until I found It listed as being ‘in stock’ I was having no luck finding it in Australia at all except for second hand copies listed at high high prices on eBay. It looks like the company never had it in stock at all.

This video shows how the game is played.

Australians cannot buy from Amazon UK. For example, this item cannot be shipped to Australia.

One segment of the economy is certainly back to work... telemarketers. The phone has been ringing off the wall for the last week or so.

poor Avro! How about Canada joining the EU? In Germany, telemarketing is permitted only if you previousely gave a written permission. Cold calls are completely forbidden and cost the caller upwards of 4,000 Euros. I believe the other EU countries have similar laws and fees.

I would have thought that not being part of Europe might have been a small impediment to joining the EU! :)

It's not so bad, I don't answer calls when I don't recognize the number, so it's not like I have to really deal with them, other than listening to the phone ring. And since I'm not answering them, it's possible that some of them aren't even legitimate telemarketers. The CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) scam is still quite prevalent I believe, and they are usually calling from out-of-country with spoofed call display numbers. Since fraud is already illegal, violating a no-cold call law probably wouldn't bother them much! ;)

There's a precedence: all external parts of EU countries are part of the EU as well: Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guayana, Mayotte, Madeira, the Azores and the Canary Islands are EU-Members.
I think with a good lawyer, Canada could count as Europe, what with having been a British Colony for some time. You're still a commonwealth member, I believe? Brexit has not yet taken place. Until the end of the year GB is a EU member and therefore theoretically would be all the Commonwealth if when joining GB hadn't insisted in special rights.
And in the worst case we could simply rename the EU to Northern Union or Canopean Union :D
