Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

Mark it in the history books. garakvsneelix is the first person to complain about Lower Decks and compare it unfavorably to Star Trek: Discovery. The never-ending cycle continues!

And, just as predictably, those complaining about Lower Decks not being real Trek like Discovery, will refuse to acknowledge that this is just a never ending cycle that happens with ALL new Trek shows.

Whole world in corona quarantine, waiting for DSC season 3 or any 'real life TREK'. What does CBS do? Give us some 30-minutes-long cartoons...
They've been making this for some time...

"It's the circle of life..."

Am I missing some big Netflix or Prime announcement or is this a slap across the face for folks outside the US/Canada? I'm sure there's some kind of explanation but for now this really looks... umm... bad? I mean they could at least say "sorry, international people, we know you exist, we're working on it".
The official press release stated the show was going to be "distributed worldwide by ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group" which is really vague speak for 'its coming, we're just ironing out the details with the distributor.' But I do understand the frustration of not knowing.

Hopefully, this will get easier next year after CBSAA goes international!

Seriously, I could design a better ship that that. What on Earth is going on over there?

Nice riff on the TMP poster

Difference is: One ship actually looks GOOD and photographs well...the other... ;)

Lower Decks will be as real as any other Star Trek before or after it.

Oh, I think, it would be a slap into the face of every actor, when you say, that cartoon figures are as real as them and the sets around them... ;)

But don't let me be misunderstood:

I never said, that Lower Deck isn't real Trek for me. Of course, it is. But than again, I make a difference between cartoon and non-cartoon (I'm just searching for another term than "real life trek", but common, you know, what I mean).

You haven't even watched it yet.
It's also not a kids show, it's rated PG-13 IIRC.

Of course I haven't watched it yet, yes. But I just didn't wait for it yet, too. That's all I'm saying. I would have been happy, if I would have as much Trek as possible to watch in this times, and seeing this, I just would have been more happy with something, that is... longer than 30 minutes per episode.

It’s probably not the best angle to view that particular design, although it is hard to envision what a good angle would be. I will reserve criticism until we see it in action.

It’s probably intended to be designed as a completely wonky and non-descript non-hero vessel due to the very nature of the show. Not only is it about generally unimportant personnel, they likely serve on a generally unimportant ship.

Noel Wells, Jack Quaid, Tawny Newsome, and Eugene Cordero are as real as Sonequa Martin-Green, Patrick Stewart, Michelle Yeoh, and Anson Mount. And their characters (Tendi, Boimler, Mariner, Rutherford, Burnham, Picard, Georgiou, Pike) are all equally "real" in my eyes. The show isn't a parody, it's just Star Trek returning to a format they've used before, albeit rarely.

Lower Decks is supposed to be ten episodes long. So, August 6th to October 8th (if they don't skip a week or double-up). That means Discovery Season 3 will likely premiere in mid-October at the earliest.
