Uplifting sci-fi that isn't Star Trek

[Farscape One]

I cannot recommend FARSCAPE enough!

It was a masterpiece, as far as I'm concerned. It took a LOT of chances during its run, and damn near all of them paid off.

Great writing, acting, sets, production values, arcs, characters... it has it ALL.

Over the last few months, I've been watching the Stargate Franchise, Marvel's Agents of Shield, and I have 2 episodes to go in Marvel's Agent Carter's first season. I would recommend all of these shows, except for maybe Stargate Universe, so just see SG-1 and Atlantis.

The Orville is full of hopeful optimism and light-hearted moments in amongst some great story telling and amazing visuals.

Put it this way; The Orville actually got rid of their best character in a genuinely moving and fulfilling manner, after a great story. Star Trek has never managed that.

The Day the Earth stood still (have only seen the remake with Keanu Reeves but the scene where John Cleese as a scientist talks to Reeves' alien and uses reason and emotion to plead for the chance to let Humanity fail or succeed on its own just gets to me, it's a short scene but for me the core of the movie).

This was up there as one of my favourites when I was a kid. It's the first show that ever broke my heart by ending abruptly.

I'll never watch it again as I'm afraid of how it may have aged

I loved it. It was a great show and basically Battlestar Galatica before it was brought back years later by Moore.

She was the solder played by Kristen Cloke. While all the characters are great the best two were Cooper and T.C. The clones that were called Tanks as a slur because they were created in tans. Joss Whedon has also mentioned the episode were Cooper is on a planet all by himself just about and a Chig is partly what inspired him to do the "Hush" episode of Buffy.

Hers was the only name I remembered but I agree the 2 "tanks" were the best characters and certainly had the most interesting back stories.
James Morrison (Googled it) is one of those character actors who makes my heart jump everytime I see him on TV even after all these years

S:AAB was a really good show that was maybe a little bit ahead of what the genre was doing at the time on TV. Also, Fox did it's usual bang-up job of doing everything it could to ensure it would never gain a steady audience (see also: Firefly).

Possibly the best thing about the streaming age is that sci-fi shows don't have to rely on Fox to stay alive.

It's weird how they butcher their own shows. Didn't they put Futurama up against Simpsons in the US despite having the same audience?
