Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

I bought Mad all the time.
And, do not neglect the modern covers

Sorry, @Worf factor9 , but I had to err on the side of caution and remove the image for the "no nudity or partial nudity" rule.

And yes, I know it's a) a drawing b) apparently a cover of a magazine and c) a parody of the old Coppertone ads, but we can't really take the chance with Google. Sorry.

An old childhood friend of mine used to collect MAD magazines when we were in grade school. He changed houses late in grade school and forgot the stacks of magazines in the garage. As he treated them well, some of them would be worth something today...if whoever found them were smart enough...

I went to the drug store to get my prescription. Was wearing sweatpants, wasn't going inside so no need to change. When I went through the drive-thru, I couldn't reach the speaker button so I opened the door to lean out and press it, and my wallet fell out of my sweatpants. I didn't even notice until I got home. It was just sitting there on the floor between the door and chair. If it had fallen out of the car, I might not have ever realized it until the next time I needed my wallet, which could've been a while during this pandemic.

In grade school, a new teacher joined the school one year and he was big into collecting baseball cards, and thus got all of us interested in collecting cards, under the belief that one day they'd be valuable. He would even bring complete sets to school to sell to us.

Then years later when the internet became a thing, all those cards we collected for future value? Everyone on the planet has the same cards!

I wonder if this teacher made a killing off of us, or if he had bought into the false hype too.

My mom threw out my brother’s Ken Griffey Jr. rookie year card. He was pissed

I still have a Nolan Ryan card from 1992. It’s in a pristine shape. It’s not worth much but when he passes, there will be someone in Texas willing to pay a couple hundred dollars for it.

As a teen, I had a few dozens of rare commemorative stamps... I have no idea what happened to them. Most likely they ended in the dumpster.

Smoking on an airplane has been banned for decades...but planes are still being built with NO SMOKING lights that can be turned off. The hell?

Growing up, my parents were always big on me learning things and figuring out how to do things. Now, they're the exact opposite when it comes to themselves. Don't know how to download an app on the TV? Even after asking me what to do, they just give up and don't even try. Don't know how to post an ad on Craigslist? They make me do it for them and send me an email of what they want it to say.

Anyone else experience something similar to what I'm dealing with here?

Are the members of Lady Antebellum (now Lady A) so terminally stupid that they DID NOT REALIZE (when they initially formed the band) that the word 'antebellum' is a reference to slavery? :wtf:

That goes along with dressing people in nice clothes before you cremate them.

Seriously? They really do that shit?

I mean, it's understandable if it's a casket burial (for the viewing) but for cremation?

People do the weirdest things. Some ask (in a will) that some of their most valuable possessions be burned along with them.

That's not so surprising as in some primitive cultures a wife would be burned (alive!) along with the body of her defunct husband. Thankfully we don't do that anymore.

There are five elderly parents between us ranging in age from 86 to 74. Helping them navigate even some very basic things is becoming a full time job. They are definitely sliding backwards. It’s kind of awful to see.

Sounds like Potlatch.

Something like that happened in an episode of V: The Series. Really creeped me out when I was in junior high.

One of the Visitors is - falsely, I might add - convicted of murdering the local Visitor leader. Her sentence was to be sealed (alive) in the coffin, with his corpse, as it's shot out into space.

Some lady from Virginia wanted her dog to be euthanized so that it would be buried with her. There are articles about it, but they didn't name who she was or her executor who was 100% onboard with the plan. The dog did get euthanized.

My thought for the day: This is real life. We can't fix it in post.

"Antebellum" means "before the war." In the U.S. it commonly means "before the Civil War," but the word itself has no more to do with slavery than magnolia trees or mint juleps.

However, I don't want to stray into TNZ territory.
