As you're fond of saying, that's objectively untrue.

    Wrong.

Without Kate, pretty much every other member of the series' main cast has no purpose, and every storyline that the series spent the entire first season setting up becomes meaningless and obsolete.

So you're saying you won't like the series, not that there won't be one. Glad we cleared that up.

Nolan created an engine at the end of Dark Knight Rises, feeding Orphans into the Batcave, into an early grave, and repeat.

No reason that what we saw here wasn't another engine, where Luke is acting all bashful and innocent about leading each new lamb to slaughter.

They should use American Idol technology.

    99 cents a call.

The audience votes with their phones, after they do a split timeline episode, like that time on Community with the Pizza, or four different episodes, where each of the woman in the show decide that it is they and only they who can take over for Kate, and we see what that looks like, and then we vote.

    Julia Pennyworth.
Sophie Moore (Seriously? 500 years ago "Moore" was the N word.)
    Mary Hamilton.
    "Beth" Kane.

I don't think they're necessarily going with an original character, the name is just a placeholder in these things. It looks to me like they might be going with a version of Harper Row, who in the Bombshells version was inspired by Kate to form Batgirls.

But yeah, not fond of the decision of writing Kate out of the show.
I really hope there's more to it than a tiny casting sheet can tell us.

They could call it Batwomans, and use a bunch of characters.

The show is called Batwoman not Kate Kane.

All that matters is the show has a Batwoman in it. It specifically being Kate Kane on the other hand doesn't matter quite as much.

    Childish hyperbole.

So they're replacing the Kate Kane character with a new one making the show "NOT COMIC BOOK ACCURATE!!1!111!". Big whoop.

As long as they tell decent stories with the new Batwoman the show will do fine.

At the end of TDKR, John Blake becomes Robin, or possibly Batman, and succeeds Bruce Wayne as protector of Gotham. What Guy is proposing is that the film set this up to continue with the other orphans like Blake (the orphanage prominently featured) to succeed him when he dies/retires to France. That's a unique perspective not really borne out of the film.

He further concludes that Luke might set up the Batwoman identity to initiate new Batwomen until they die/retire to France and then he gets a new one. This isn't going to happen, but it can be funny to imagine a twisted version of what we see onscreen.

    Thank you.

Stately Wayne Manor, was reaffirmed as The Wayne Orphanage for Muscular Boys.

Why else make the homestead an orphanage unless it was the coal bucket for his Batman engine?

And yet every single ongoing story line revolves around Kate Kane and not Batwoman. And the rest of the cast consists of Kate Kane's father, sister, step-sister, childhood friend and assorted lovers and ex-lovers.

To say that she can swapped out for someone else with no knock-on effects is just nonsense.

I know I don't watch the show, but this is really odd to me. Kate Kane is Bruce's cousin, and has that connection to the "real" Batman. Why would someone new have access to Bruce's money and gizmos?

Or will she? Plus, part of the show is that she had a friendship with Kara. New Batwoman wouldn't have that.

    At least not to start.

Is this new character even in the comics? I honestly don't know.

Mary and Beth are also Batman's cousin.

Alfred was Bruce's legal guardian, for a decade, therefore Julia Pennyworth is Batman's sister.

Sophie and Julia are lesbians in Law Enforcement.

    Small world.

They must know Alex, and then they meet Kara.

Hm. Someone on another board thought it might be Catwoman's sidekick Holly Robinson. Harper Row is a name I know only from Young Justice: Outsiders.

Agreed. Which is why I'm hoping that the intent is to keep Kate around on a recurring basis rather than kill her off.

Harper was created by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo during their New 52 Batman run. She was one of many attempts to create new sidekick characters for Batman during that era. (Others include Duke Thomas and Tomasi's version of Carrie Kelly.) Harper is basically aspects of the three Batgirls (Barbara as Oracle, Cass as streetwise, and Steph as Spoiler) tossed in a blender. There's a feeling among fans that Harper is a "fetch" character; Snyder kept trying to make her a thing, and she didn't become a thing. She didn't really fill a character niche.

I brought up Julia Pennyworth earlier, she is at least connected to some degree with the storyline so far.

Agreed. I haven't got to the finale yet, but I'd guess they haven't wrapped up her story line yet so it just feels off. I'd prefer a recast under these circumstances.:(

    Kate Kane is Batwoman.

Legacy characters are well and good and all, but she hasn't really been around long enough for people not to feel slightly cheated by having someone completely different assume the role so soon. It'd be like if Batman Begins was followed up with a movie where Jason Todd was Batman. I mean yeah sure you could do it, but it's not really surprising most people would rather see Bruce's story continue.

Dark Knight Rises made this point where Batman was a legend to be passed down. Bruce was the first. Blake is the second and the orphans are the future.

They could do something like that with Batwoman. Batwoman has become a legend and there are new characters that are taking up the mantle and continuing the legend.
