Battlestar Galactica getting rebooted (again) for NBS's streaming service

Basic outline. In other words, not every episode deals with the Cylons. They meet other races etc. Oh and some actual Hopeful episodes instead of constant weekly dread...

The original series is unutterably stupid; this is why the current creative folks are quick to reassure fans about how this project relates to the Moore BSG - there are not "a lot" of fans of the original; there are a few.

I have asked around my “sources” and one has come back on Twitter. They are keen on Liam Cunningham as Adama, but there are no deals in place and auditions have stopped.

Kiersey Clemons as Starbuck was news to them, as they want an actor that is non-binary.

They're happy to announce who they want for a role without a deal in place? I call bullshit.
They haven’t announced anything, and won’t until probably early or mid 2021 when it goes into production. Announcements require actor commitments, and not having a writers room or even rough production dates means you can’t lock down actors.

What I mean is, you just named an actor that they want. Without him having a deal in place. Typically, that kind of thing ruins negotiations, so I question the legitimacy of these "sources".

But I claim no knowledge of my own, I guess we'll see.

Almost all casting calls give an ideal actor example, to help frame casting directors and agents minds. Don’t question the legitimacy of something you clearly don’t know much about.

That's not fair. If I didn't question things I don't know much about I'd hardly get to question anything. ;)

But seriously though, what legitimacy? A post from someone on a Trek board who claims to have spoken to unnamed sources on Twitter...why can't I question that?

The point of the franchise is to tell the story of the last bits of humanity after robots killed off 99.99% of the species.

So clearly it should be a comedy right?

Well Last Man on Earth was a comedy sitcom and This is the End was a end of the world stoner movie so if they want humor they can make it work.

There was also “You and Me at the End of the World”. Was canceled after only one season but it really had some good potential and is one of the better End Times shows, IMO.

Whoops Apocalypse.

There is a 0% chance of this happening. Perhaps some elements of black comedy but it will be a serious drama, in the way that Watchmen has some funny moments but isn’t a comedy. The subject matter and people involved with this reboot don’t do gags.

I know it's not going to be a comedy but I was just saying comedy can be even in dark and grim stuff as well. It's possible the show won't be as dark as Moore's even if it's in the same universe but I am certain even if there are tonal changes it will maintain a overall serious look at the story they are telling. Which might not even be apocalyptic it should be add. We don't know the story they are telling. I could even see a more edgy Stargate were the show encounters other human worlds from time to time.

What if this crew exploring for example is the 20th such exploration since the one we saw on the old show because time and again history keeps repeating itself. Maybe humans are not searching for a new world but searching for God. They heard stories of Head Six and Kara but it's all in old musty texts. Nobody has ever seen angels or anything but they want to.

I get that the original show was camp. Same with Buck Rogers. Their charm is pretty much only rooted in nostalgia.....for me anyways. I know the fanbase is small.

But still I would rather see a new show, closer to the originals outline and Nu's production quality and tone. I wasnt suggesting a new show be campy and silly. No goofy stuff like robotic dogs.
But a return to episodes that do not solely focus on the Cylons.
Being chased on their quest to find earth and instead of the reversal of the original concept with NU....Earth is indeed set in present day once they get there. I would also like to see other threats in their path to earth, introduced. Plus some eps that are a bit more hopeful and light. Though I know that with today series that just isnt as popular anymore.

Both shows had great concepts but TOS could be silly and Nu's lost its direction towards the last couple seasons. I was not a fan during season one of Nu....stuck with it and really began to enjoy it and than hated how it ended up and then the prequel series I gave up on during season one.
