News Coronavirus Pandemic Information and Support Group

Well, to be fair there are a lot of countries that haven't caused MILLIONS of deaths much less millions of deaths under totalitarianism. The Soviet Union is in a pretty small category of countries that have astronomical death tolls.

So, what flags does that leave? Iceland?
Why does it need to be a flag at all?
The mask idea was just about messing with the people cooleddie surmised might be expecting a Soviet invasion. Because, y'know, there's no Soviet Union and all.
And it is insensitive to my mind. But, I'll freely admit to my bias, since I worked around older people for a time and they tended to be offended by people wearing the Soviet flag in reference to a video game.

Just see it as unnecessary. That's all.

And in other news, an initial study by Japanese researchers indicates the potential possibility of a spread rate of 20 times less in outdoor settings. It is not peer reviewed yet, and obviously more data is needed but it makes me encouraged to know and wanting to get outside.

Last time I heard there were still no confirmed reinfections, so that's something.

I'm skeptical about those antibody tests. If people really had no antibodies they could get reinfected from their toothbrush.

We really have two choices. Absolute lockdown for a month or two, followed by everyone, or we need to find a middle ground where we can live our lives again while minimizing risk as much as possible. Since the first is impossible in the US, the middle ground seems like our trajectory, where new infections will stay plateaued and higher risk people will stay more protected.

Facing a global pandemic, with many thousands of people dying, and wearing the flag of a country responsible for millions of deaths under various leaders strikes me as very insensitive, at best.

Blaming the entire country for the actions of their government is also very problematic. That's what's getting Asian Americans beaten up, whether they're citizens or not, whether they're Chinese or not.

^That means, if you don't carry the virus, you don't have to wear a mask. But, since most people don't actually know whether or not they are carrying the virus (as the virus can have mild or even no symptoms for a lot of people), it's best for people to wear a mask, just to minimize the risk.

Fair point.

There's some good news this morning - NPR is reporting that New Zealand has recorded only one COVID 19 case since the country fully reopened.
