^Okay, sorry. I'll try to constrain my digressive tendencies. It's just easy to get distracted while waiting for more pictures.
Well, I'm all for that. I come to this topic to see your work progress and to try to help out with resources to help out. The tangents are just things to wade through.
I apologize for any contributions I have made for such tangents, and will keep my conversations limited to my undying love for the gorgeous Refit-era designs, and your even more amazing renders of such
That's one of those things where if I'm given the choice between that stupid hallway and Kimble's cutaway, I'm picking Kimble every time.
Of course the reason that hallway is there is because no one was thinking of the sets being laid out like an actual ship would be...otherwise there'd be no circular corridor right outside. Jefferies' plans for the Star Trek II (TV) ship had the engine room closer to the base of the nacelle pylons where a corridor could go directly out and foreward, but I doubt Joe Jennings was thinking about that when laying out out the sets.
Though, there were cutaway graphics of the Enterprise hull on the bridge Damage and Repair station. So getting a close-up picture of these may reveal exactly where Engineering was supposed to be
Nah. Those are all exterior elevations except three or so deck plans lifted from "Franz Joseph". The side elevation not seen here (below shot) is also an exterior, I believe. Jefferies' idea was the engine room of the TV refit was going to go in the space just below the text "hatch" just forward of the hangar, as per this plan (link).
These aren't tangents, these are directly related to the internal layout of the refit-type Enterprise, and thus attempted assistance at Donny making the best of the inconsistancies between screen and model :P
Ai yai yai.... Given that I've already completed my engineering set, and decided to go with depicting the long corridor in my TMP version after much discussion already on the subject in this very thread, I consider any further discussion on that matter to warrant a thread on it's own elsewhere.
Noted. What locations have you not yet created, or are still in the process of working out? Also, are you planning on making locations that never appeared on screen but exist in the blueprints?
I’ve been keeping track of the finished list of sets on the first post of this thread, with links to the showcase posts when each is finished. This should serve as a guide for what I’ve already done. For now, I plan on making every major set seen on the Refit in the movies. Other unseen areas, including those onboard other ships, are to be determined, and will come most likely after the major screen sets are completed. But take all tentative plans as a grain of salt. It all depends on my fluctuating mood, motivation, and life circumstances.
Hehe I know how that goes. Whenever I try to do anything creative, that nagging attention deficit problem rears its ugly head. But that being said, if I didn't have it in the first place, I likely wouldn't even have my creative moods to begin with ^_^ Anyways, back on topic, I can't wait to see the rest. Will there be both TMP and TWoK variants of each set? I know many prefer the more busy Wrath style, but I myself am partial to the cleaner Motion Picture style.
Slightly off topic, but do you plan to do the same with the Enterprise-A, to have a Final Frontier version on top of the Undiscovered Country version?
I provide the Star Trek II (TV) materials as food for thought since they are the "bones" of the refit sets, but if they're off-topic I'll just email the stuff to Donny.
No immediate plans. But maybe one day. The biggest block to continuing on with my Ent-A project is finishing up those bridge displays, which are far more time consuming than one would think (I was creating red alert versions of every display as well, so it's double the work of near 50 or so unique, animated displays). If I can ever get motivated to finish those, it would uncork the bottle, so-to-speak, on continuing that project. I've promised myself I wouldn't tackle any other TUC sets until I finish the bridge.
