Spoilers Hopes for the Third Season??

My hopes for season three is that the build the supporting cast, but retain Burnham as the main character. I hope they keep the same high production values. I also hope we learn more about what happened not just to the Federation in the future, but also the Klingons, Romulans, Tholians, and other familiar species. I also hope we get new species. I wouldn't mind seeing Gary Seven, Braxton, Daniels, Future Guy, the Sphere-Builders, Na'kuhl, or the Enterprise-J or beyond, or if not getting those, some nods or allusions to them. It would be neat if they could finally realize the Doctor Who/Trek crossover.

Oh god I'd melt in a puddle if that happens........ Return to my nanogoo form. The shock would undo the cloaking :)

Which Doctor though?

Having just watched all of ENT, I noticed that Daniels never actually says he's from the Federation. We just assume it. But what if he's an independent agent? That would explain why he regularly interacted with Archer, from the 22nd Century. I can't believe a Future Starfleet would ever allow any of its officers to interact with someone from Archer's time.

When Daniels takes Archer into the future, he takes him to a 31st Century that's "all wrong" and says there's no sign of the Federation ever having existed. Which isn't the same as saying the Federation actually still existed in the "correct" 31st Century, just that it would've existed before. The only other time Daniels takes Archer into the future is a possible 26th Century, with the Enterprise-J.

So, in canon, the furthest we've ever seen of Starfleet is in the 29th Century onboard the Relativity with Captain Braxton in VOY. ~300 years before the third season of DSC is set. So that gives them a little more wiggle room to have the Federation fall than I thought.

And if all else fails, we never actually saw the end of the Temporal Cold War. So, for all we know, Daniels and his future never came to pass.

Which Doctor though?

I would guess it would be Jodi Whitaker's Doctor, or maybe the Ruth Doctor. I think Whitaker's Doctor would be the easiest crossover to make. I couldn't see them going with another Doctor because that might cause some brand confusion.

Of course, I have many hopes for the 3rd season - and mainly, these are the same hopes like the ones that I have for any new season of a series I plan to watch: that it has some strong storylines, that the characters are well-written and so on...

For the following 'future setting', I have, however, two special wishes:
1. I want to see a future, that fits to the optimistic point of view, ST always gave me before PIC. While I enjoyed "Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda", I wouldn't favorite a 31st century where everything our heroes had fight for would have been gone.
2. I don't want to see another "time hopping". You've reached the 31st century, so please, make a great worldbuilding, show us an exciting and brand-new Trek era... and stay there!

Maybe, when the season is on screen, some other points occur to me, but so far, these are my two most important wishes.

I like 13 so yes this needs to happen.

Now that I'm sitting in quarantine and can basically have shower thoughts everywhere I happen to be, this just came to my mind:

I really hope they don't just rebuild the Federation as it was and pat themselves on the back for a job well done. If you take the story a millennium into the future, then build a setting that fully acknowledges how things are different. Let them build something new that's inspired by the Federation's ideals and takes the new realities of the 32nd century into account: a different name, different member races, different capital, a more alien aesthetics, etc. Who knows, maybe the most influential planet in the future is Cardassia, Bajor or even Kaminar. It would be the perfect opportunity to make the Federation successor much less of a Homo Sapiens-only club.

And if they go with the Fall of the Roman Empire angle, seen from a rump Federation existing as an analogue for the Byzantine Empire, I'd love to see an analogue of the Holy Roman Empire as well: something that claims to be the successor, uses some of the trappings and maybe even has one or two of the original members (like how the HRE initially included France and Northern Italy), but is effectively dominated by a completely unrelated species, and actually is nothing more than a loose and dysfunctional confederation of squabbling interstellar states paying lip service to a figurehead. They could even have a Charlemagne-like historic founder coming from one of the Federation's usual adversaries; I'd find it really interesting to watch, let's say, a bunch of Cardassians try to play Federation.

I am wondering if we will hear of Memory Alphas loss.... because SOMEONE is going to want to find out what happened to the crew... like Tilly trying to see if she made it back and became Captain... or finding out about Pikes fate.

The story and filming are all done right?

I'd just like to see Season 3
I got the first two seasons on Netflix, but CBS All access isn't available to me
Which is a worry for the Pike series
Haven't seen any of Picard, but I can live with that

Ages ago I read that Netflix's rights to Discovery covered any spin-offs, so Strange New Worlds should be covered along with Short Treks (with the possible exception of "Children of Mars"). Picard is on Amazon Prime because it's an original property/sequel to Next Gen and only connected to Discovery by being part of the same shared universe.

I read it on the internet so it must be true.

Thanks, I haven't checked Netflix in a while, but last time I did, they didn't have the latest "Short Trek" teasers
I'll have to have a look
They definitely don't have Season 3, do they ?

Discovery Season 3 will air on Netflix internationally because the series is a co-venture between CBS and Netflix. Netflix pays for some of the production costs. The first 'season' of Short Treks were released in one go shortly before Season 2 was available on Netflix, so chances are it will be the same deal once the air date for Season 3 gets closer.

Damn I never got to see all the short treks that came during season 2 like the dot and ephrim one... I was on Netflix but never got them on my list. I'm outside the USA.

I hope they remain in the far future for the remainder of the series.

Between seasons 1-2...the Pike show, Section 31, TOS, TAS, the Kelvin films, and possibly the Nickelodeon animated series also being set in this timeframe...I feel like that era is a bit done to death now. Keeping Discovery in the far future for the rest of the series will allow breathing room for the crew, the writers, and the viewers.

Maybe not season 3 but by the end of the series I WOULD like a couple of people go back in time... Tilly should be on her way back to become a Captain... and Saru eventually an Admiral. How long is his peoples lifespan???

I'm hoping they at least acknowledge that the Federation was ok a century prior to the 32nd. Enterprise showed that the 31st century Earth and Federation was fine and had time travel tech, as Daniels was based there. So whatever damages the Federation in the 32nd century could only have happened within the past century.

Unless they relegate Daniels and Enterprise's temporal cold war to the Kelvin Timeline, which is certainly possible.
