You're on a board where people argue that the AMT model of the Enterprise was a different class of ship than the Enterprise.

There wasn't even that amount of difference. Honestly, the only thing I could see (other than the two different nacelle types) that was any different from ship to ship was that some of the impulse engines were different colors, or not even lit at all.

That looks like a regular Nova class

Yup, either they were placeholders, or they may have intended a mix of ships which was changed later on.

Would've loved to see at least one Rhode Island, though!

It ended up having to be cobbled together due to time constraints, no doubt more time will be put into it in future.

I thought the CGI itself was solid its just a shame we couldn't have seen the ships in more detail.

Plenty of time for that in S2 onwards.

While I’ve always contended that the Cardenas class would have looked fine as a circa-2370’s ship design, I definitely wouldn’t have wanted it in this fleet. I don’t care that the Inquiry class was one ship copied-and-pasted 200 times; I’d rather have seen that than DSC ships. We already went down that road with ‘Children of Mars.’

Just imagine if it were 40 seconds!

it’s a storyboard, almost certainly placeholder.

Chabon said 3 unique ship designs were designed and approved, they just didn’t make it into the final episode for whatever reason.

Wait, what 30 seconds were people upset about?

Riker shows up with a fleet. He tells Oh he'll kick her Tal'Shiar ass in the one of most bad-ass stare-downs in Star Trek history... and then some people went up in a fit of outrage over the ships. As if that mattered more than seeing Riker in all of his glory.

Sure it looks like they xeroxed the fleet, but it's such a short scene that I cut them some slack. I'm sure they'll design more brand-new 25th Century Starfleet ships along the way. Whether it's in Picard or somewhere else. Or at least HD CGI-render some earlier TNG+ ships. No big deal.

No one "went up in a fit of outrage". A lot of people were very pleased to see Riker, but disappointed by the butt ugly USS Copy Paste though.

(The space cinematography were as bad as it usually is in CBS Trek, so that doesn't really count)

Yeah, that's quite a nitpick. If there's one thing I like about the newer shows it's that they never recycle footage like all the older shows TOS thru ENT had to for budgetary reasons. But of course they'll still recycle sets from sister shows, because there's always limits!

Well, here's hoping it doesn't become like the Excelsior Class. "We need a ship! Hey! Let's use the USS Tadpoal!"

It’s even worse with the Excelsior. They filmed it a total of two times, in the first episode of TNG season 1 and the first episode of season 2, and then proceeded to use that stock footage for the rest of the series.

Indeed. It was an excellent scene, it was an awesome power move, and Riker's bold declaration is one of my favorite Riker moments (and this coming from someone who generally is indifferent to the character).

I know, it's Star Trek and we want our ships. But, let's not get lost in the weeds and lose sight of the story.
