Which is really weird if you think about it, they keep a character because the actor is named one of the "50 most beautiful men" by some random article...and have him play a thoroughly unsexy character? If they kept Wang for his supposed "sex appeal" shouldn't they have tried ramping up Harry's attractiveness?
Though he improved with age and looked quite a bit handsomer in the 2010s. Still not what I'd rank among the "50 most beautifl men on Earth" though...

Has any producers ever verified this? Because in Berman era Trek any actor who asked to be released had been. And with declining ratings consistent through the series (all of them, and tv in general), losing an actor from a larger cast is one of the bigger fixed costs of each episode.
And having an actor ask to get released is worlds different then an actor being fired, so the PR issue would be minimal at most,
There are some really cool things happening in regards to Voyager this year for the 25th anniversary - the documentary, the virtual reunion next week, the 25th anniversary book, the Trek Cruise earlier this year, Robert & Garrett's podcast - and it is such a bummer that Jen won't be a part of any of that.
I recently found and rewatched both seasons of the cartoon "The Critic" on one of the free streaming apps on my Firestick, and Jen does the voice of the "sultry, femme fatale" Valerie Fox in the pilot episode. She has such a unique voice I'm surprised she didn't have a more prolific career in voiceover work.
Wikipedia has a pic of her with Kate & Roxann from a TV Guide feature with the entire cast from 1995. I wonder how long it's been since any of the cast has had any contact with her.

Not really complaining, I kinda like 90s style and it suits her. I'm just used to see her as Kes, so it's a bit strange, she looks like she walked straight of the set of Friends.
Also...Voyager is from 1995? I kinda always thought it was a late 90s/early 2000s show...
Also makes me think they should have kept her real hair for Kes, it could have easily been styled to show off the ears and would have given her a kinda "Elf"-like look.

(I remember the Voyager feature got the cover of that issue of TV Guide and then some fans were miffed a few weeks later when they did the same type of feature with the DS9 cast and it didn't get the same attention)

I have to disagree here. I preder the "Pixie cut" and think that it was sort of a trademark for Kes. With long hair, she looked just like anyone else among the female Star Trek characters from all series.Wow. could Jennifer Lien look any more 90s in that picture?

I can only agree. When it comes to music, movies, TV-series, entertainment and even fashion, everything has been on a downward spiral the last 20 years. The 2010's really s***ed and I have no hope for the 2020's.

I think the one thing that has improved is television. We do have the Golden Age of Tv. But movies and music have gotten worst. Especially the music. Clothing styles as well.

I have to disagree with you about television.
Back then we had TNG, DS9, Voyager, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, CSI, CSI New York, CSI Miami, NCIS, NCIS Los Angeles, Without A Trace, Cold Case, Married With Children and so much more.
Now we have only NCIS and NCIS Los Angeles. When they are finished, I might as well sell the TV.

I think it's because shows and movies don't have to appeal to the whole family anymore. In the 90s, I think, most families still shared a TV that's why especially fantasy and science fiction shows were (on the whole) considerably lighter and softer than today and took care to include comedy episodes and kid-appeal characters/elements, to appeal to a larger amount of demographics.
Today children often either have their own TV or can stream stuff on their computers/tablets/whatever while the parents watch Stranger Things or Picard.
This leaves modern adult TV to be "edgier". That can work well, and if it does we get things like Season 1-4 of Game of Thrones. Or it can lead to stupid shlock and Darkness induced Audience Apathy.
For escapism stuff today you mostly have to turn towards cartoons (which are often a lot better today than they were in the past) that include good storylines and characterizations. Stuff like Avatar:The Legend of Aang, Over the Garden Wall, the Hollow, Adventure Time, Kipo, the Owl House, the Clone Wars etc. etc. etc.
They are about the same level of seriousness as the average 90s fantasy/science fiction show, sometimes perhaps a little bit better (imho) and the only difference is that they're animated.
