This thread is intended as a place to consolidate the inevitable posts about news, rumors, and reviews from various third-party sources, especially YouTube contributors. Going forward, any new threads concerning such content may be merged into this thread. I'd also generally recommend posting such items here rather than in ongoing threads.

Note that this thread is not intended for YouTube and other news content from actual production sources, including the cast, which may be considered worthy of its own thread, or placed in the General Star Trek: Picard Discussion Thread.

[For posterity, this had formerly been the Discovery has its own forum these days post in Future of Trek, and has been repurposed as the opening post of this Frankenthread.]

Hmmm. It came out after TNG ended, so I'm going to guess he didn't like it.

He basically says everything I was thinking. But in the end, like he says, it fills seats, so it's never going to change.

So this isn't allowed it's own thread?

Anyway. Not the best Plinkett video. I miss the kidnapped people in the basement parts. But I pretty much agree with all his criticisms.

It doesn't need its own thread. The humor has just passed.

It doesn't need its own thread, anymore than the rest of the inceldom videos.

Not that RLM are incels, just a lot of their fanbase is toxic. I like their videos, I agree with maybe 80% of what they say on a lot of stuff but their fanbase reeks of that whole internet subculture. Even RLM make fun of them to their face at times.

The top comment: You'll notice that there are no customary unsettling Plinkett sketches interspersed in this review. That's because they weren't needed; Picard has more than enough disturbing scenes on its own to fill that quota.

More likely COVID conditions made it difficult to do any complicated filming.

Surprisingly, Picard didn't induce nausea like Mr. Plinkett so I guess I wasn't that disturbed.

    <Insert Cumberbatch meme here>

"Look what this guy's saying on YouTube" threads will always find their way here.

The only interesting (or at least original) aspect of the Mr. Plinkett "review" was the conclusion - that they blamed Patrick Stewart, rather than the writers, for how Picard turned out.

I know this will be summarily deleted or locked because the powers that be here have a benefit in pretending the show is excellent because otherwise it would reduce their visitors but give it a go (link).
Also I know the brigade that does not allow differing opinions will be hypocritical with pretending they require plain-text arguments when the entire show they supposedly defend is audiovisual.

Mr. Plinkett is the uncle who puts me to sleep.

He's like the guy who listens to the Oldies Station (nothing wrong with that), then turns on the Hot AC channel and then starts complaining about the music because it doesn't sound like The Mamas & The Papas. A band who I happen to like, but I'm not expecting new bands to sound like that.

No, it will be merged into the General Discussion thread, as will all threads with the topic "look what this guy's saying on YouTube".

Sums it up nicely. I get that many appreciate RLM and Mr. Plinkett. When I was 20ish and first discovering such things I found it funny too. But the persona is just too disturbing for me to find amusing anymore.

Call me old, or whatever but I think you can make your points about not liking show without the pomp and circumstance.

I just love that Plinkett's review pretty much ticked off everything I was saying about this show when it aired. No themes. Complete nonsense motivations. Inane and often dropped plot points. Romulans destroying the fleet that would save them. Soccer ball attacks. Useless characters like Elf boy. And the best part: Yes, Picard is teaching you to be a racist. Romulans are all sneaky, treacherous risks to the universe and they should all die. I too would like to thank Alex Kurtzman for this.

This review pretty much kills any and all "precedent" arguments for a lot of what happens in Picard. It's very thorough in its examples of how the series violated a lot of what came before it.

What does he think of Nemesis these days? He did a review for it way back when, and he used to hate it. But now I bet it's "okay" or "wasn't so bad".

"Deleted or locked"? Nope, here we are discussing. But the evangelistic tone of your post is puzzling. Basically saying, "I beg you! Stop liking Picard! Evil moderators have deceived you and made you like this show! This link will show you the light!"

Let people like what they like, and dislike what they dislike. I'm somewhat lukewarm about PIC. On the other hand, I can't stand ENT - but I don't go out of my way to tell ENT fans why they need to stop liking it. I'm glad there's a Trek for everyone, but not all Trek has to be for everyone, even those who identify as devout Trek fans.
