Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

It stinks of Necheyev.

???

What does Nechayev have to do with any of this?

It would be nice to know exactly when Clancy and the Commodore were originally promoted to their current positions.

Well, we know that Oh was Chief of Starfleet Security by 2390, when she ordered the murders of Ambassador Beautiful Flower and Jana on pain of the remotely-controlled destruction of the USS Ibn Majid. It's unclear if she was Chief by 2385.

From a drama perspective it would add an extra dimension to the show but it remains to be seen if it will even be referenced again, especially as the show only has 10 episodes a season.

And because the show isn't actually about the office politics of Starfleet Headquarters...

According to STO's lead ship designer, La Sirena from Picard is around 85 meters long, or at least that's the size CBS gave them for it

I might argue that the ship is a Lyran design—for all the SFB fans. Hugh Sicotte did similar swarm ships for -Beyond...and, so help me, I swear that I saw RPG manual for (non trek) star fighters with Roman (not Romulan) names...

If they want to shoot a Borg ship on location they should go to the Hotel De La Ville on the de Russia at roccofortehotels

Some choice comments:

I'm glad I'm not the only one disappointed by the ships in Picard. The designs for the Federation, Romulan and even Picard's ship are so unappealing and dull. Bring back Sternbach and Probert so we can see some real creativity and the real Star Trek!

THANK YOU! I couldn't believe they just showed the " USS COPY-PASTE " showing up.

I liked this series but Chabon's complete disinterest "in ships" is so out of tune with the fans, at the very least he should take some interest if only for the fact that it's what his customers want to see. A little bit of effort here would have gone a long way.

Remember "The Ultimate Computer" where all 4 ships were copypastes of the Enterprise????? Fake Trek!

Over fifty years ago.

And the Enterprise is a stunning design that looks good from every angle. The Copy Paste Class is an ugly mess, saved only by how badly it was framed and shot in the episode, so that we didn't get to see it particularly well, thankfully.

I don't love the Inquiry class, but I don't feel there's anything wrong with it either. Though Neon Visual is very talented, the title "CANON Starfleet Arrives!" is ridiculous. Picard is canon, fan videos are not.

And I think Trek fans survived the TOS and TNG eras just fine with these beauties @fireproof78

Notice, a common design language, similar hull colouring, standardised nacelles, hull markings etc. Alien concepts to John Eaves.

We all know that TOS is not really Trek. It ruins Star Trek for forever!!!!

Never any fleet action though, especially in TOS. Sorry, but Star Trek is more than just ship porn.

ETA: For my money, the Constitution and Excelsior are the only pretties in that line up. The rest are just OK to downright awful-Oberth, I'm looking at you,

So what?

Sorry, but Star Trek is more than just ship porn.

Umm, who said it wasn't? The point is ship porn is important to a large section of fans.

The fact that you guys have to use a tv episode from 52 years ago to make your non-existant point is well, laughable.

That wasn't your point thought. You suggested that TOS and TNG fans didn't have ship porn to enjoy. My post was to show you how wrong you were.

If you don't find any of the above pretty I can't wait to hear what you think of this jumbled mess of starship "design'. Different hull shading, different registry styles, ugly geometry, different hull markings, different nacelles, 50 shades of dull grey. Great work John Eaves

Agreed.
I would have liked to see the TOS Starfleet hull typeface in use on those hulls, but that complaint aside...

Don't need that video you linked to enjoy the show.

Not important for every story.

What's laughable is the supreme importance being placed on ships. It rings of effects over story.

Eh, mixed bag. Not pretty but OK.

8 different nacelle types, 5 different hull colors and markings...

Well apart from the ugly Nova class but I'm going to assume that's another Eaves ship. The pointless cutouts give it away.
0/3 points. It's beautiful, designed by Sternbach, so there you go with your cutout reasoning XD

The Nova was designed by Sternbach.

The Sovereign Class plus the Holoship and Scoutship from Insurrection were the only canon 24th Century Eaves Starfleet ships before Picard aired.

The point is ship porn is important to a large section of fans.
But not to the story, which is more important.
