Those are great! I wish the covers still looked this good.

I noticed the thread title said 'and more' so here is a planet.

    https://memory-beta.fandom.com/wiki/Virinat
    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Virinat

Virinat was mentioned in the novels before appearing in STO. I actually didn't know that before it was added to the game, either forgetting I saw it in a novel, or I hadn't read any it was mentioned in yet.

It's a major-ish location too, as it's the homeplanet of any Romulan faction character you create in the game. Though it isn't a permanent zone, it only appears in the prologue and one further mission down the line.

May I please ask if this is this the proper place to post art depicting characters, ships & creatures merely alluded to but not outright depicted in the Pocket Books continuum? (One doesn't expect to be kicked out of the BBS for posting a portrait of ships only glancingly mentioned in my beloved RISE OF THE FEDERATION novels, rather than any of the 'Lead Ships' from that series, but would still like to avoid ending up with egg on my face). (-:

I am, it must be admitted, one of those dreadful persons who reads a novel or two, enjoys the characters & ships playing a starring role in those adventures thoroughly - and then stumbles across some passing mention in footnotes or in the appendices that not only catches my attention, but actually loosens the purse strings to boot (probably because this sort of commission feels more personal and allows one the satisfaction of having not merely read, but thought in detail about the setting to a greater degree than simply lifting an image straight from the books might).

Actually I'm hoping that 2020 will be good enough to allow me the chance to commission illustrations of characters from the novels as part of a miniseries depicting the many iterations of uniform & equipment throughout the early days of Starfleet ... but that's for another day!

Welcome! With the novel drought only finding intermittent relief, anything that visualises it is welcome.

Excellent! (Also, thank you very kindly for the welcome Markonian).

I expect to have something in the next day or two, but will only be able to post it after this weekend (one tries to spend weekends away from the Internet, since I spend rather too much time on it anyway ... but then don't we all?).

FROM SOL TO THE STARS - 11th October 2165 CE

Stylised digital portrait of USS Soyuz (NCC-10) and USS Apollo (NCC-11) departing the Sol System for their maiden voyages; commissioned by citizens of Luna as a set of two (one for each vessel) in a display of friendship and solidarity between Earth & her oldest daughter colony, both copies remain extant as of 2369.

^^ Those who would like to see this rather lovely image in a rather higher magnification (and a little bit more about its Fictional History), please click on the link above. ^^

In the Real World this image was created by the very excellent artist known on deviantArt.com as Jetfreak-7, to whom all credit for the excellent composition and loving detail poured into this piece is due; all credit to Mr Christopher L. Bennett for THE RISE OF THE FEDERATION novels (and in particular those lovely online annotations) which inspired this piece; all complaints should come to me and will be met with cutlery.:klingon:

I love the idea of Luna contributing to Federation Starfleet, and the idea of the Apollo/Soyuz tag-teaming between Luna and Earth is heartwarming!

Thank You most kindly for the compliment; my conviction that USS Apollo really ought to be NCC-11 came first, but my firm belief that this particular starship ought to be given a Lunar colony as its 'Home Port' flowed quite naturally from that (I'm also quite pleased by that nod to the October Revolution inherent in making USS Soyuz NCC-10).

I have to admit that the idea that this would be an Official Portrait in duplicate - and that one copy would be given to each vessel, as a gesture of friendship - actually flowed from my suspicion that the best way to evade accusations of Scientific implausibility in the composition of this piece (Sol, Luna and Mother Earth being so perfectly lined up as they are) would be to make it explicitly a stylised portrait rather than an off-the-cuff snapshot.

With that in mind it seemed very properly STAR TREK to compliment this double portrait with a symbolic gesture intended to highlight the fact that Luna is not only the extraterrestrial colony closest to Earth in Space, but also in Spirit (my suspicion is that people have always moved between The Moon and the mother-world quite casually since the heyday of Doctor Cochrane, so its sometimes hard to see where Earthlings end & 'Luna Schooners' begin).

I just read IDW's first Star Trek: Waypoint Special in their anthology series, and one of its stories, "Only You Can Save Yourself," expands on "Field of Fire" by showing a post-DS9 Ezri (in some kind of weird potential future where the Federation is at war with the Andorians) getting through a crisis by calling on "ghosts" of her past hosts who guide her through it. Its art style is very cartoony, but it offers what I believe are the only images to date of Dax's first five hosts:

    https://memory-beta.fandom.com/wiki/Only_You_Can_Save_Yourself#Images

It's nice to have those, since I've always had trouble visualizing the past hosts as anyone other than the DS9 actors who embodied them in "Facets."

So I'm rewatching DS9 and...has anybody ever drawn what Bena, the daughter of Rom and Leeta might look like?

Technology has not been my friend recently and while I hoped to post my latest STAR TREK commission here, I have instead been obliged to post a link to the appropriate website; hopefully it's none the worse for being seen elsewhere (and may Mr C.L. Bennett forgive me for any failings in this image, which must reflect my own faltering powers of description - and pet theories! - rather than any fault on the part of the Artist Known as Daystorm).

An image in the SOTL 2020 calendar by Dan Uyeno has a Miranda-class ship battle a squadron of Tholian spinners - that reminds me a lot of the Bombay's last stand at Rashanar as well. I would love to see the ships from the novels—I think there was a ramscoop starship in “The Galactic Whirlpool”

I believe the Titan, Aventine, and possibly Vanguard station have all made appearances in the Ships of the Line.
