TAS made real....

You know, as I look at it, if one ignores the half-assed perspective, one could see the various upward-facing "horns" around the perimeter as being at 72 degrees from its neighbors, like a 5-pointed star. Or not. :D

I know you're not being literal to the drawings, so these are just a few observations about how your model differs. The nose hull of the original sketch appears to curve down a lot more and the neck appears longer and doesn't feature as strong an S curve along the bottom where it meets the hull. Also, the wings on the sketch wrap around the center shape more. The result, possibly intentional, is the 3D version looks less organic and planet like. The front "egg" might be a big kidney shaped as seen from above.

And, frankly, this is one of those designs which probably only has a few good angles, as it's just weird. I bet it's the Phylosian ship. :)
The onscreen image is perhaps not the best view. Also, of course, the TAS ships are often not drawn consistently.

This is another view as a line drawing from the Official Guise to Star Trek The Animated Series. Seeing the ship in profile (not seen onscreen) gives us a better idea of the shape and proportions and how parts relate to each other. As such I am starting again from scratch given I have done this before with the alien pod ship and the unknown (never seen onscreen) saucer design.

If you think the pod ship from "Beyond The Farthest Star" was weird (and it is) at least I could envision something like it being constructed as a miniature. I cannot really envision this thing from "Time Trap" being made as a miniature. The "wings" on the side are more complex with compound curves than is apparent from the view seen onscreen. At best I could see perhaps something like this put together yet seen only in the background here a lack of surface detail wouldn't be apparent.

I look forward to the added detail. This looks like a flying elephant eating a fried egg.
When I first saw that render, my first thought was a space-faring Nessie!

"Admiral, there be Nessie here!"

Sorry, I'm Scottish! :techman::D:guffaw:

Looking forward to see where this goes.:cool::cool::cool:

^^ That profile view reminds me a bit of the Martian ships from the old War of the Worlds movie.

Either that or a weird crossover of the living ship from Farscape (Mora) and a Klingon cruiser... :cardie:

Man, that is one bizarre design. I really love and respect how the TAS artists really tried to push the envelope with some of these ship designs in such a way that they never could have done on TOS’ budget. Amazing stuff.

Well, it's sure alien looking. Or it belongs in a Dali painting.

Only observation: from the side elevation it looks like the fried egg nose was mean to look a lot droopier, which makes it look more organic than the more saucer-like version you've got going on.

Man, the stresses on the neck must be brutal under power... Kinda makes me wonder if it folds back or tucks in during warp, etc.

Looking awesome, no matter what, excellent job!

There are inconsistencies, of course, between the line drawing and the onscreen drawing and it’s a challenge to reconcile the two. Mind you this isn’t a design focused on when seen onscreen. I am still not totally happy with the main centre section, but I also don’t feel like starting all over again, so I am going to try reshaping/replacing it without adversely affecting the other connecting parts.

The front end looks droopier because it’s wider/longer than I made it. When you really look at the onscreen drawing it isn’t that clean in terms of line work, but then this design isn’t that prominent.

I like how the “wings,” “tails” and “ears” came out as well as the neck. Mind you if I change the centre section I might have to remake the neck.

Finally have something to show. A big improvement over the previous attempt although the main section still looks a bit off. Mind you I haven't finished with this yet so we'll see how it ends up. There are things I have to interpret because the two drawings available are not consistent with each other and other angles are not visible. And although it mightn't be apparent the ship is painted three different tones of green.

Good:

The front part no longer looks like a fried egg.

:wtf:

The main body still looks like something Dumbo saw during his intoxicated state.

 Granted I’m still working on it. The artist drew it two different ways—in the line drawing it’s an obvious sphere, but he changed it for the onscreen version. Mind you the final version isn’t radically different once you take the added pieces away and eliminate the shadowing.
