TOS “The Enterprise Incident”.

In four words: duh duh duh DUH!!

An all-round great episode that kept me guessing throughout. I didn’t particularly like the sexism when it came to the depiction of the Romulan Commander, whose uncontrollable hormones (specifically, her having the hots for Spock) made her pretty incompetent, but I still loved pretty much everything else about this one. Including the memorably over the top music

I have a thing for big characters larger than life...

TOS, Season 2: “Who Mourns For Adonais?”​

While the story isn't sure what it wants to do with a giant god-like being who's alone on a planet and that alone leads to some fascinating visuals that slashfic from the 1970s somehow and unfortunately managed to avoid, an unexplained premise of humans having to return to an agrarian style way of life is intriguing - and used for other sci-fi shows in various ways.

And the importance placed on Uhura is one of the few attempts in TOS to compensate for the typical side of job of keeping check of the frequency channels. All the side characters needed the occasional scene but it's also true "The Big Three" had something of a balance that pretty much took center stage. So it's nice to see Spock separated from Kirk and McCoy as well.

Again, the special effects were rather good for the time. Even the scotch tape and skin-hued powder to hide Apollo's pectoral parts because nobody was allowed to have them in 1967 but the dude's so deliciously huge they ran out of fabric bolts and couldn't get more on their budget so they had to compensate.

I’m kinda glad you brought this up actually. Every time I watch the episode I find myself trying to figure out what the heck happened to Apollo’s nipples!

"The Vengeance Factor" is a great TNG standalone. It's a workmanlike episode with nothing particularly "special" about it, but it's executed in such a solid, satisfying way. And I love the planet set and score on this one, it all adds up to such a great atmosphere.

Even though the resolution was predictable (the weird-looking aliens are really the good guys! the handsome freedom fighters are evil!), I enjoyed Voyager's "Nemesis." I liked the alien slang, with words spun just enough to be different but not enough to be incomprehensible, I liked the mind-screw, and I really liked Chakotay in fatigues. (What can I say? I'm literate but shallow.)

I love Blood Oath. Bringing back Kang, Kor and Kolos for a final, glorious battle was an inspired idea. I loved how enthusiastic Terry Farrell was here as well.

One scene I always look forward to is Jadzia's discussion with Kira about killing people, followed up with Kira's knowing, silent nod to Jadzia when she gets back.

I always felt "NEMESIS" was one of the best uses of Chakotay, and a damn good episode. Always loved it.

I can still hear Beltran saying his last line: "I wish it was as easy to stop hating as it was to start." Haunting.

TNG's "The Emissary" deserves,and gets, some love for introducing the marvelous K'Ehleyr. A sarcastic, free-spirited, and yet still duty-bound Klingon, a perfect counterpart and foil for Worf -- and a lot of fun to watch. We needed to see much more of her than we did.

The wolf in this fold is so psychedelic, you can imagine the viewer listening to "Surrealistic Pillow" while Kirk and crew were wanting to place pillows over their ears in:

TOS, Season 2: "The Immunity Syndrome"​

This is the sort of high concept episode that could have only been done in the 1960s and remain credible, in part as they play it so straight and the idea is so out there yet has an aura of "cool" attached. How this thing feels like a threat when it's not traveling faster than light is due to relative circumstances, another ship finding and going in it then being consumed or "eaten".

The big arguments and dialogue snippets between McCoy and Spock are each all highly entertaining.

The notion of a huge incompatible energy field housing a single cell that could grow intro a giant who-knows-what one year in x number of aeons is surprisingly horrific. And they bring up how patterns repeat regardless of size or scale.

It's also a bottle episode, which allows the claustrophobia to really work.

The sad part is, and I risk losing my super-secret Section 54 backstage badge in saying this, but the plot is cribbed from/using the same template as/recycled from is "The Doomsday Machine". Yet both are awesome in their own rights.

(never saw the "Somebody to Love" song from Smothers Brothers; it's surprisingly disturbing, unlike "White Rabbit", but when it comes to metaphor "Somebody to Love" isn't necessarily about one or more coital partners (in serial or parallel; sequence or simultaneously), and in one or two cases it's also ironic on their part but that's another story entirely...

The insectoid ship is excellent and it reminds me of some of my own artwork that I created about 25 years ago, which in turn makes me think that I was unknowingly influenced by this episode as a child watching this on Saturday mornings.

Returning DS9, Season 4: "Return To Grace", well, to grace.

One of the few episodes in which Dukat is cast in a role that makes him somewhat sympathetic. One of the few episode in which you could truly believe that perhaps he could make a turn for the better - and that's regardless of the question of whether continuing his private war with the Klingons was the 'right' thing to do. Also showed what a great actor Alaimo was, and that he could do more than just play the egocentric villain. Haven't watched it in years, I really should do so soon.

Even the title has a plot hole... But anyway, the Earth development parallel o' t' week simply couldn't get any more crass with the Yangs and Cons and all that, right down to perfect copy of the Constitution in ye olde English. Okey dokey...

...but Tracy Morgan is one of the more underrated actors of all time, in a previous episode skillfully playing a mind-robbed nutter in "Dagger of the Mind" (an A+++ episode) and now an out of control meddling commander whose presence more than makes up for the parallel development rubbish.

That, in tandem with a planet that was slowly causing a chemical reaction to make people dehydrate into their chemical components is downright chilling - worthy of season one. The episode is rightly criticized for superficial politicking, it's just unneeded, ridiculously on the nose, and could have told its allegory just as easily without it. (But being one of the three intended pilot scripts a couple years earlier, and how sci-fi was not easily understood - of course, the same was largely true in 1995 for "Sliders" and its premiere where critics decided somehow that it was "commie propaganda" (Huh?! Quite the contrary, but they probably tuned in 17 minutes late and misinterpreted the whole thing or were too busy making snow angels out of dust bunnies or making babies or who knows what...) But Tracy Torme (who helped elevate early TNG from being complete a total dumbed-down muckery of a series) knew Roddenberry was onto something good with the "parallel development" idea and pretty much perfected it in a way that works infinitely better and in infinitely more ways, without stretching credibility or feeling overused.

So, no, I can't hate this episode and it really is underrated excessively so because of the prevailing attitude of sci-fi when the pilot scripts were written in 1964.
