TV shows that STILL aren't available on DVD!?!?

Does Mad About You get funnier? I got a season 1 set cheap and I'm 6 or 7 episodes in and so far it's not very funny .

 

Nope. It stays exactly the same throughout it's run. Even the new season is exactly the same.

 

To get funnier it had to be funny to begin with in order for the funny to increase. So not really but the actors do have good chemistry so it's like lots of tv. Not really good but kind of comforting in repeating familiar formula's over and over creating a sense of familiarity with it that grows on you.

Well Mill Creek did get all of the animated Cops series out on DVD, however, their 2011 release had the 65 episodes spread across 6 discs, with a bonus episode of Hey Vern, It’s Ernest!, with a 192kbps Dolby Digital 2.0 audio track, but in 2017 they re-released the series, but dropped the Ernest episode (even though they also reissued the Ernest series at the same time) and took the 2011 MPEG-2 DVD files and compressed them even more so that they could fit the 65 episodes on 5 discs, rather than 6. This has led to interlacing issues and mottled color, and then the person mastering decided to re-encode the 192 kbps audio at 256 kbps, which makes absolutely no sense, as they could’ve used that extra bit room to go into the video! What Mill Creek did was like taking a VHS recorded in LP with linear audio (which depends on tape speed to get the best dynamic range, so LP linear gives a lower range than AM radio) and copying to another VHS in SLP mode, but recording the audio in Hi-Fi (which is equivalent to CD quality audio). It doesn’t make sense.

I loved Dharma & Greg, one of two shows on my wish list. FYI - season two is available on DVD so we’re 2/5 of the way there.
The other show I’d love to have on DVD is Traders, so far only season 1 of 5 has been released.

 

Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer (1984-1985). The 1986 revival season has been released on DVD in Australia. But the original two seasons are nowhere to be found.

One show which, and I guess I shouldn’t be surprised because it’s Disney, but the 1967 Spider-Man on Blu-Ray. Sure Disney released it on DVD in 2004, with 45 of the 52 episodes Remastered (Even the unremastered episodes look better than the old masters that have aired on TV for decades, almost as if they had used some scans that had maybe been made in the 90’s and put on tape then) in 480p from the 35mm original negatives (the film had been scanned at 1080p, and then downconverted for DVD, as in 2004 the only HD format out for consumers was D-VHS which could play 1080i HD video—-Blu-Ray wasn’t released until 2006) and they look amazing! The DVD set has been out of print for over 10 years now, and from what I can tell it’s nowhere online (not even Disney plus!). I don’t think the HD versions have even been seen on broadcast (as I said previously, over the last 10 years when I’ve seen the cartoon on TV, they are airing old tapes with the New World logo from the 80’s/90’s, and here in Canada Morningstar released a bunch of episodes on DVD in “Best of” DVD’s from 2008-2010, but they were mastered from Betamax and VHS copies from the old 1980’s Prism Marvel Library—-oh and those transfers were done on cheap Betamax and VHS VCR’s, so the picture quality is watchable, but that’s it and the audio is in mono, even though all Betamax and VHS releases were released with Hi-Fi 2-channel mono audio).

This series really needs a Blu-Ray and new DVD release.

 

Which reminds me that I don't think the 60s Fantastic Four cartoon has been released. That's the one I'd like to see.

 

That cartoon was produced by Hanna-Barbera, which also produced the 1979 “Fred and Barney Meet The Thing” series and is currently owned by Warner Brothers (which is in the same corporate family as DC Comics, Marvel’s main competitor). So far Disney has made no moves to buy either cartoon from WB, and it’s unlikely that they would allow WB to release either on home video or streaming because of the DC angle. As far as I know, those are only 2 of the 4 Marvel cartoons currently not owned by Disney (the other 2 are the MTV Sony Spider-Man cartoon and the Spectacular cartoon).

 

I don’t know if it’s on DVD but an old school medical drama I got into before it was cancelled is one I’ve been looking for, for a LONG time. I’m going back a fair way here. It was a hospital show called Medicine Ball.

There's no complete series or seasons, just a few episodes, DVDs of both Goosebumps and PBS's Wishbone.

I think the only reason I watched regularly was because it was on after Seinfeld.

 

What about X-Men: Evolution? I thought that Warner Bros. owned the rights to that.

 

Warner Brothers only had the broadcast/home video distribution rights (On the Mystique’s Revenge DVD it says: ‘Marvel, X-Men Evolution TM, all related characters and the character likenesses, thereof are trademarks of Marvel Characters, Inc. and are used with permission. C 2004 Marvel Characterss, Inc. Program Compilation C 2004 Marvel Comics, Inc. Package Design & Supplementary Material C 2004 Warner Bro’s. Entertainment, Inc.’)

The only thing WB owns are the bonus features and package design, otherwise Disney/Marvel own the series. And WB’s distribution ended back around 2010, as the last DVD rights expired back then. I remember people hoping that Disney would’ve released the series on DVD (including Season 4, which WB never released, but I’ve got it on my PS3 as Sony released it on the PlayStation store —- not as good as the DVD’s, but the best right now) back in 2010 to 2012 to tie into one of the X-Men movies and maybe continue the “Marvel Comic Book Collection” that they had used for the 1992 X-Men and 1994 Iron Man series.

 

Over the past few days I’ve been watching the Walt Disney Treasures DVD set Elfego Baca/The Swamp Fox. The set has 6 episodes from the Walt Disney Presents TV series. Unfortunately, there’s only 3 episodes of each mini-series. From what I see online, “The Nine Lives of Elfego Baca” ran for 10 episodes between 1958 and 1960. “The Swamp Fox” tan for 8 episodes between 1959 and 1961.

The 6 episodes present on the DVD are in 480p and look really good upconverted to 1080i or 1080p. Of course the episodes were scanned in 1080p for the DVD release (so they are not old 480i transfers that were done in the 80’s for broadcast), so that leaves the Question why there has been no Blu-Ray release, or even why the rest of either series has not been released on DVD (or online).

 

Seems like a year or so ago, I was visiting my dad and saw a commercial for this. i don't recall if it was a marathon or if they were just going to start showing them weeknights. Can't remember if it was Comet TV or which channel. Always wanted to watch this show when I was a kid, but only got to see an ep or two. That was back in the days when you typically only had ONE tv in the house.

Things I’ve been wanting to see come out on DVD for years now:

“Enos” (1980-1981) (the “Dukes of Hazzard” single season spinoff show; everything else “Dukes” got put on DVD, including “The Dukes” animated series!)

“Herbie the Love Bug” (1982) and “Zorro and Son” (1983) (two very short lived Disney tv series, only five episodes made of each; I remember watching them when they first aired, when I was 10 and 11 years old; I loved the “Herbie the Love Bug” movies as a child)

“Mayberry RFD” seasons two and three (season one was released and then rereleased but still no sign of seasons two and three; like what I said about “Enos”, I believe that everything else “Andy Griffith Show” related (all seasons of “Andy” and “Gomer Pyle, USMC”) have already been released on DVD except for “RFD” seasons two and three)

“The Fugitive” (2000, single season remake with Tim Daly; I actually was one of the few people who liked this series when it came out and was bummed out when it got cancelled, especially on a season ending v cliffhanger; humorously enough, I never watched the show that came on after it at the time, a little program that went on to some small measure of success titled “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”).

“New Amsterdam” (the 2008 fantasy crime procedural about a New York City homicide detective who secretly was immortal, similar to the more recent “Forever” (2014) starring Ioan Gruffudd, which also only lasted one season; “New Amsterdam” only lasted eight episodes)

The aforementioned “Muppet Show” seasons four and five, and “Cold Case”.
