I don't know if this has been discussed before, so I'll mention it.
The other franchise is far more unified and integrated. To give one example, Rogue One has a similar feel to Star Wars: A New Hope, in terms of uniforms and fell. Our franchise, however is not, and, to give the most famous example, the Klingons look different, which leads to problems explaining why they look different. And, to give a second example, the Starfleet uniforms are also different.
Sure the Klingon one perhaps. But logically speaking you would expect a interplanetary empire to have different looking members. Not all members of the Federation look like humans. Not all Klingons would look like humans or have bumpy foreheads.
But citing a change in uniforms as an inconsistency is quite frankly ridiculous. that's like saying Star Trek is inconsistent because some crew members wear gold/green, some wear blue, and other wear red. It's not a problem, it's a feature.
Not only that, our stories tend to contradict each other, because, when TOS started, they were literally making it up as they went along. And, after that, they didn't bother to maintain a consistency.[]/quote]
I'm going to have to disagree. I think the stories are remarkably consistent. Yes, its true that occasionally you get irreconcilable inconsistencies, but by and large they are consistent. The contradictions are the exception rather than the rule.
And let's not even talk about the reboot.
Yes. Lets not.
