DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

Tony is an extrovert by nature.

I would say he's very, very much an introvert -- specifically an outgoing introvert. He puts on a big show of being open and gregarious, but it's all just a facade he uses to distance himself from other people and avoid any real intimacy. Mostly, his intellectual and emotional life is inner-directed, not outer-directed. The place where he's most at ease is in his lab, alone, exploring what his own mind can create, with only his robot friends for company. He resists sharing his plans and projects with other people. And his superpower is literally hiding himself inside ever more elaborate suits of armor. It doesn't get more introverted than that.

That's brilliant.
Tony does play the I'm a "f*ck up, so what role" well. Sign of never coping with his trauma and emotions properly. Demonstrated by the vices he indulges in.

His lashing out and his whole character in Civil War was true to his character. Well done.

BvS and CACW have similar moments with their billionaire heroes. Bruce reacting to hearing Martha (his mother's name) and Tony reacting to seeing his mother Maria, murdered by Bucky. Bruce is an introvert by nature. Flashing back to a deeply traumatic experience of seeing his parents murdered. Caused him to internalize, reason and reconsider what he had become at that moment against Superman. Tony is an extrovert by nature. He's got an equal amount of trauma but he puts it on display. Either through irresponsible behavior in the IM suit (Iron Man 2), women, liquor, gambling etc. Tony lost sight of the bigger picture (capturing Zemo) at that moment and instead, lashed out at Steve and Bucky. Extrovert had to let people know how he felt.

Tony's behavior at the end of Civil War was similar to what Joker did to Dent in Dark Knight. All the stuff that Tony had been through (possibly the end of his relationship with Pepper, the Accords, his guilt over Ultron, Steve almost giving in and then backing away and refusing to meet Tony partway at all, Rhodey nearly dying, having to imprison the other Avengers and finally finding out the real reason Steve was always protecting Bucky) had pushed him to the razor's edge and Zemo knew this. The last thing, hitting at his deep emotions over his parents' deaths, was enough to push him into a temporary psychotic break.

Strange thing is that Zemo is seen as unnecessary or poorly written for this, but no one says the same about Joker.

I agree. Also alcohol tends to be an introverts drug of choice because it dulls external stimuli to which they are overly sensitive.

Because he feels outside of the whole story. It feels very artificial and forced in order to continue conflict.

I get what the movie is trying to do but it doesn't land well for me.

How is he outside the whole story? The Avengers aren't so petty they'd really turn on each other like that, there needed to be something that would be the catalyst.

It's like saying Joker was forced to turn Dent into Two-Face.

I felt like the catalyst of what happened in Slokavia was sufficient. I felt like Zemo would just randomly pop up, along with a lot of other events in that film.

Mileage will vary but it is not a film that I found very organic.

Any chance WW1984 doesn't get moved again? It's going to lose a lot of potential money coming out in 2020... (If it will even be possible to come out in 2020)

It doesn't come out until August, so hopefully we'll at least be able to go to the theater by them. From the bits and pieces I've picked up, I'm expecting things to be opening up by June or July. I wouldn't be surprised if they're still limiting attendance by the time it comes out, but that's at least better than nothing. Unless of course something drastic happens, or the government does something stupid before than and sets everything back off.

The reshuffled movies are ones that have not completed filming, if they have even started yet. The Suicide Squad, which keeps its release date, has all its filming completed, and the release date is far enough into 2021 to allow for a couple of weeks of reshoots.

WW84 is done. If there's any work left to do on it, it's editing or something like that, which is still possible to do at home (as soon as they get a good enough firewall so they can also allow FX artists to work from home). From that standpoint, there's no reason to delay the movie further. But, and that's a big but, it's not the only thing to consider. This movie was expensive, so even if theaters are open again in August, they might want to wait another month or two to allow people to grow comfortable to go into crowded theaters again, maybe they don't feel that's necessary. Maybe there's gonna be another uptick in CoVID cases, and theaters have to stay closed. We don't know yet.

So, yeah, basically, all we have right now is a planned release date. And for the time being, we won't get anything better than that.

The most interesting thing in that new schedule is The Flash moved a month earlier. Shows WB’s continued commitment to the movie. After they requested Ezra Miller appearing on Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Makes you wonder when it will start production though? Obviously that is question surrounding everything now. Makes me wonder what they were planning to announce at Comic Con before it was cancelled.

That applies to all these movies. We have been getting TV and movie casting announcements during quarantine. Even without sure filming start dates. Lots of speculation there will be a virtual Comic Con in July.

Based on some models, the current wave of the pandemic should be over by end of June, but those projections seem overly optimistic to many. If the wave lasts well into July, how many will actually want to risk going to a theater in August?

Like vaccines, it depends on people acting together. If people continue to ignore physical distancing then it will take longer.

A few people do complain that TDK Joker seemed too omnipotent, including being all-knowing and well-predicting and -adapting, and I think the response is generally that he actually was planning and preparing for about a year. I think that they are too effective from indeed seeming too powerful and also well-adapting is a good criticism against both the Joker and Zemo.

I think as long as they take enough precautions most people would probably go. As long as I know I'd know it'll be safe, I'd be willing to go if things have gotten better by that point.
Going to movies is one of the only things we actually do, so I've been missing it, and I'm pretty eager to start going again. Of course I'm going to make sure it's actually safe to go, I'm not so eager that I'm willing to put myself or other people at risk.

How can you ever know it's safe? A sneeze can carry 26 feet, so even if they restrict capacity to 50% you won't be safe...

OK, maybe not "safe", just once the CDC/WHO say that it's ago to go out in bigger groups again.
