So, is it just a small VFX budget, or poor designs and renderings?

So Starfleet can now put together a 100 ship fleet all in a day or twos notice? AND make sure that they're all the same class? Blah.. I mean they were throwing fleets of mixed Classes (including Oberth class ships) at Borg cubes 30 years previous because that's all there currently was in range. No NCC numbers? :( Was hoping when they showed a silhouette of the USS Ibn Majid that we'd be in for a Curiosity Class Starship treat. no treat for me :(

Hopefully, for the next season, they will have a better grasp on managing their money and time. It's inexcusable that they spent money on Shutterstock images and videos when they have a multi-million dollar budge and it's inexcusable that they were still working on post production right up to the last minute. What the hell were they doing with their money and time?

Oh no, I meant multiple ships.

Here are all the ships in the game that I think look good. From all the playable ships, so that indcludes Starfleet, Klingon, Romulan, Jem'hadar and non-faction alien races.

It's a lot of images, so if you're on mobile data I wouldn't look yet.

One of the FX guys says the FX was only finished last week.

The Dominion ships and the TOS-influenced vessels look ok. Most of the rest of them look like jumbled messes to me, or blatant advancements of the DSC ships.

I like the new Starfleet design, best one(s) in a long time, sleek and robust, nice lateral view.
I appreciate that they didn't recycle some STO class and didn't show an Enterprise for fanservice.

It's actually not deus ex machina. Picard asked for ships and help for the synth world prior to this episode, so the arrival of the fleet is not a surprise, and Starfleet/ Admiral Clancy had realized it was wrong not to listen to Picard, their motivation for the interference doesn't come out of nowhere. Furthermore, Riker hinted he would help if necessary ("on active reserve").
Just quite a hell of a coincidence that the Starfleet ships arrive just in time to save the day a second before the romulan vessels start "sterilizing" the planet.

The deflector dish just seems to consist of FOUR LIGHTS!

They have probably updated the fleet by 2399. Being able to put together 100+ powerful ships somewhere within like days or a week or so makes more sense than the "we are the only ship in range at the heart of the Federation" bullcrap.

Perhaps but doesn't look like a d. dish at all to me.

Such as? STO didn't invent transwarp conduits.

"How dare they spend money on Shutterstock instead of spending even more money to create custom images for a half-second image" sure is a reasonable take. The only reason anyone knows it was Shutterstock is because nitpickers went in frame-by-frame and then searched for something to complain about. No one would have noticed otherwise, and 99% of viewers still don't.

It looks like they used the entire bridge and just changed the angle of the chair and used the newer blue and white LCARS on the displays in the back. Which is in the grand tradition of Trek and way less silly than spending a bunch of money on a custom set for one minute of screen time, allowing the money to be instead used for things like the location shots.

There is a huge long list of reused sets in Trek history. The best one is ENT-D corridors being used for the Enterprise A in both TFF and TUC, as well as the TNG sickbay set.

That's way too reasonable right there.

No. Nothing like the TNG era.

    Nor the TOS film era

THAT, is a common design language and how Starfleet ship classes should be made. Not whatever Eaves decides to (over)-design (badly) on that particular day.

I honestly think I could design a better Fed ship than that.

Apparently this is a common thing with a lot of shows these days. VFX is worked on up until the last minute. The COVID lockdown probably doesn't help.

DS9 and Voyager are also part of the TNG Era.

None of these designs fit the aesthetic of the TNG era ships you posted. And none of them were designed by John Eaves.

That low-res CG model looks worse than some that were built 20 years ago. Even the ones Eaglemoss had constructed or updated for their magazines usually look better.
