Are you a trekkie...

Are you a trekkie?

Trekkie....Trekker.... I'm the one that nearly worships TNG.

Is worshipping a word too strong? I'm not sure but I know TNG is my favourite television series. It's more than a TV series.

I'm interested to know why the hell the people who clicked no signed up? Probably just taking the piss but still.

You can be into star trek and not be a trekkie at all. It's a logical possibility, though an advanced concept. A trekkie is something different altogether, something very...very weird. :D Someone can be in denial, too. Or maybe not even realize their true nature. These are some of the reasons. Clearly more scientific research is needed.

I must say, "trekkie" and "trekker" evoked images in me of people going to conventions, wearing Vulcan ears there, reading and buying all there is in the franchise their money permits to, and all that. I'm not saying that if you are doing any (or all) of these things, I consider you as such, it's just the stereotypical image I have with the term. (Neither am I saying I think there's anything 'wrong' with doing these things.)

I myself love rewatching episodes of the old series, and philosophising a bit on this board to nourish my inner geek, but that's the extent of it. I'd call myself a 'star trek fan' if I'd have to give it any name. I might even go to a convention once, just to see what the experience is actually like- but as of yet have never done so.

IIRC, the term Trekker was developed by people who thought they were better than Trekkies. And that, my friends, is NOT the way a Star Trek fan should act.

I've always said "Trekkers" are "Trekkies" who are afraid to admit it.

Do I count? I vote no. I'm not a fan-fan of the show. I'm mostly in it because I like to delve into world-building, and most of my interaction with the show is literally just playing STO when I'm bored.

Not much of the show appeals to me over all. I don't think I can point out episodes, much less a perfect episode. I'm incredibly picky.

If Star Trek is on, pre '09, sure I'm liable to sit down and watch, but I'll probably be cribbing it all the way. I can't stand anything post '09, I spoil myself about it and just watch interesting bits on Youtube.

I watched Trek since 1988. got adicted, did everything trek... playing Trek video games, Trek Cards, reading Trek books, did Trek LARP, so yeah somewhere along the line i consider myselfe a Trekkie.

Did abandon most of the stuff, in order to "grow up" but after a few years realized it will always remain at least a part of me...
