He shouldn't be so tough on himself, I thought making the 3D paintings a plot-point was a really good use of the format, and a very cool visual effect.
Avatar only 3D experience I felt was worth it. Now I see all films in 2D. Thor Ragnarok may have been my last 3D film.
Avatar and Gravity worked well in 3D but IIRC they were both filmed with special cameras and the effect served a purpose. All of the films where they’ve just run the film through a programme or whatever to convert it just look like crap.
Russel T Davies confirms that the day of the global rewatch of Rose will see the premiere of an exclusive prequel that was made for the 50th anniversary but was cut. It will drop on the official Doctor Who website. https://www.instagram.com/p/B-G3zpPnV2O/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
Ooo...new, unrelsased material?! Even if it's almost certainly Rose-centric, that should be cool to see.
Maybe just maybe we get a deleted scene with Billie actually playing Rose. Another idea would be "The moment" imitating past companions The moment- You always travel with someone. Billie- Oy! (Donna) Billie- Doctor! Look out! Doctor! Over here! (Every companion) Billie- *Something Rose-centric ?
The last time I intentionally saw a movie in 3-D was Prometheus in 2012, which actually didn't do a bad job with the 3-D, though I ended up thinking the movie actually looked better in 2-D when I watched it on Blu-ray. There've been a few movies since then I've seen in 3-D only because there wasn't a 2-D screening, though even then I don't think I've seen anything in 3-D in five years or so.
I actually bought season 1 on Blu-Ray recently but haven't watched it yet. This is a good excuse as any to take it out of the packaging and see how it looks in high-definition.
I saw they recently did a DVD re-release by Doctor of the modern series (so, a set with season 1-4.5, then 5-7, then 8-10), which are much more affordable than the original releases were, but for some reason, they've been holding off on doing blu-ray packages in the same style; they've just done one, and it's Tennant only, not even Tennant + Eccleston like the DVD. Doubly weird, because the majority of Tennant's stuff wasn't even made in HD, it was all up-converted later on.
I still have my original series 1 DVD boxset. looked cool in its Tardis box but it does take up a lot of space for whats in it. I think it is about the same size as 6 bluray cases.
RTD now on twitter too for the #Rose rewatch https://twitter.com/russelldavies63 So not only will the prequel be on the website at 2pm, he’s recently posted, but there’ll be a sequel at 7:45pm! https://twitter.com/russelldavies63/status/1243153907339218945?s=21
Too bad BBC America has no interest in this. Hopefully there won't be too much region-locked goodies.
I think it’s the 8th Doctor - does he not say that he wrote it before he even knew that Moff had devised the War Doctor?
Indeed, and the mock up cover art featured on the same page as the story even includes an image of Paul McGann.
That was a fantastic little story! I may have issues with some of Davies' storytelling, but he definitely has a way with prose. The descriptions were wonderfully imaginative and filled with lots of callbacks. Rodan and Bettan are particularly cool to be name dropped! Yup. I really love that artwork and how it's in the vein of the classic Target novel.
