Locutus sports three distinct looks in The Best of Both Worlds. Which do you prefer?

    From Part I:

    And Part II:

    Also from Part II...

Did they make an eyepiece for him that he refused to wear?

All I know is that the make up was EXTREMELY uncomfortable for Sir Patrick (in fact, he said it was downright painful to wear), so that's probably why there wasn't an eye piece, they probably didn't want to add to the uncomfortableness. In-universe I'd say the Borg simply didn't make one only because they hadn't gotten around to do so yet. I'm sure he'd have gotten one once the Borg had assimilated Earth.

And... I vote for "shirtless Locutus".

From the January 2367 issue of 'Playgirl', though what the heck is Dr Crusher smirking over?!

I like his Gap sweater but are you sure it's not a Benneton sweater? Everyone cool wore Benneton.
And too Groddy with the tubes in the head!

Maybe the Borg took pity on Jean-Luc and chose to leave the hair he had left, he had been bald for some time.
Losing the remaining hair might have been enough to ruin the assimilation.

I like the second look way more. He really should have had an eye piece but if it was THAT uncomfortable I don’t blame him.
I do think it was cheap, in hindsight, that Picard didn’t have permanent physical damage done to him like the other Borg. You can provide a fan wank explanation, but the real reason is that they don’t want the star if the show to be permanently disfigured or missing hand.

The Borg costume was really uncomfortable to wear?
Being assimilated might be really uncomfortable so Stewart was really getting into the role. :)

It's actually copper. Makes conducting of electricity, or at least dissipation of heat from the CPU through the copper heatpipes, much faster. Overclocking 101...

Yup, that's his approach... putting himself into his character's shoes (and possibly uncomfortable costumes, lol). :)

On a more serious note, there's a blooper reel on the TNG Blu Rays/BOBW Blu Ray that features a short moment where you can see him tugging at the collar of Locutus' armor with a pained/exhausted expression on his face. It really was a very uncomfortable costume to wear.

There is a design sketch showing that he did lose an arm, and had it replaced with a biosynthetic substitute. Prob ably dropped due to time, and the ongoing cost of make-up to make the artificial arm a little pale (as depicted in the concept sketch).

I mean they could have made Picard wear a glove on the artificial hand, like they did with Luke in Return of the Jedi, Starfleet Uniforms have long sleeves anyway, so the only time they would have had to apply makeup would have been whenever Picard was out of uniform.
Would have been a nice, constant visual reminder of his assimilation.

That's his "Engage!" hand. The universe would never be the same without it.

Are you kidding? A bionic "engage" hand would have been 350% more efficient. Think Steve Austin with some élan, plus the sound effects of course.

Male pattern baldness is NOT a trait the Borg wish to assimilate in their culture!

The producers didn't want to do it. Ronald Moore mentioned it in an old AOL chat.

It's a bit like that time Voyager's entire senior staff were assimilated but none of them lost limbs or even eyes.

And suffered no lasting psycological effects.

    Almost like it never happened.
