I know what the term means, I have never heard it used in Star Trek as a label for a fleet or Task Force before.
Its generally used to indicate a group of smaller vessels rather than large ones.
I do hope Starfleet doesn't turn up to the battle with a bunch of shuttles and fighters.

Task force has bern used by the U.S. Navy for decades. So has "hubris," I'm guessing, but that's sheer conjecture.

What's really strange is that Memory Alpha has a whole page dedicated to it but I am still looking to see if the specific term of "task force" is actually used.

I have seen it used in Star Trek before, think it was during the Dominion War on DS9 which makes sense.
If that helps narrow your search at all.
When it comes to Naval/Military terms, Trek has always played loose. Although I was happy to see Picard refer to his night watch duty on the Reliant. It irks me when characters refer to being on shift in Trek. On a ship, you stand a watch not do a shift.
Just occurs to me. There are four TNG movies. A movie is two hours. So all the TNG Movies add up to eight episodes' worth of material. There are now eight episodes of Picard out.
Therefore: Picard has now officially made up for the TNG Movies.

The term appears 19 times in TNG (plus Nemesis), DS9 and Enterprise. Mostly in DS9, in regards to both Klingon and Federation forces, and in Enterprise, Andorian.
