News The Disney+ (The New Streaming Service) Thread

I have to admit, I am a little shocked it's taking them as long as it is to get the Marvel series going. The Mandalorian and the Marvel shows were the big selling points for the service, so I kind of expected at least one Marvel show to start at launch or at least much closer to it than they are.

The list of movies available at launch for Disney+ in the UK has been announced. It's a long list:
https://www.cordbusters.co.uk/disney-plus-launch-lineup-full-list/

As you'd expect, it's slightly different than other versions around the world. I see a bunch of movies that folks in the US do not have (yet). I also noticed a few shows that aren't listed that the US does have. Seems like a more than long enough list to ease anyone's worries about how much would be available.

Here's a slightly shorter list, all the new stuff that showed up (on the US version) this week:

Frankly, that's a pretty solid list too. There's a number of very watchable movies that got added this week.

Also, apparently The Finest Hours is back on Disney+. We'll see how long it lasts this time.

The MCU and Star Wars are expanding into tv, so now get ready for the live action BatBCU.

Gaston and LeFou are getting an origin story.

Streaming service Disney+ is teaming with Once Upon a Time creators Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz as well as stars Josh Gad and Luke Evans for a Beauty and the Beast prequel limited series to the 2017 feature film in which the latter pair starred.

The untitled limited series will be a six-episode musical event, with composer Alan Menken in talks to return as well. Sources say the project, which is currently in the early development stage, will take place well before the events of the film

They're not really characters I was dying to see an origin story for, but based on the people involved behind the scenes I am very curious.

Huh, I wonder if It's going to show us Gaston's PTSD backstory. Not sure how that works as a Disney Musical though, only "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" could pull that kind of thing off.

Eh, I really enjoy the Beauty & The Beast animated movie, but the live action film to me was just an overly long, inferior version of that, so I don't think I'll bother with a spin off.

Now it's payday and my boiler (:o :o :o) has been paid off, I'm signing up for the pre-order offer of £50 for the whole year.

I've just been looking at everything that's coming, and we are having The Simpsons! I'm going to be drowning in Disney nostalgia very quickly. Old films and series I grew up watching (Gargoyles, Duck Tales, Gummi Bears). There is so much content from the past that I haven't seen such as Rebels, Clone Wars, or the old Marvel cartoon series.

And that's all before the new content. I'm a little puzzled as to why we are only getting The Mandalorian on a weekly basis being as season one is already out. However, I'm confident I will find something else to watch whilst I wait. :techman:

First, this week's new stuff:

You'll notice that it's only "Originals". Seemingly no library content was added, even though Zorro and more Wicked Tuna were supposed to show up.

But secondly, a big surprise:

Frozen 2 is coming to D+ on Sunday, much earlier than previously planned! Obviously Disney knows that a bunch of people are going to be stuck at home, and they're trying to grab attention and subscribers. (Previously Frozen 2 was scheduled to arrive on D+ on June 26.)

edit: looks like the March 15 date is US only, other folks are going to have to wait a whole 2 days

Internationally,Frozen 2 will be available on Disney+ in Canada, the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand on Tuesday, March 17.

I have a feeling this is going to happen a lot more. This is also a great way to promote your streaming service to people who are stuck at home. It does make me wonder if they are going to start the Marvel Series early now, and I think it might be a good idea.

Streaming is really going to take off because of this situation.

I keep wondering why that new DC Stargirl show is on this, until I realize it's a Disney original that just happens to be called Stargirl

Yeah, I was a little surprised they could get away with having two shows with the exact same title coming out so close together.

Would they be far enough along to release them early?

I read something earlier today that the Falcon series was still in production and they stopped that. We might actually be getting a delay.

Well, they've shut down Loki and WandaVision as well, so expect them later rather than sooner.

Frozen II is now on Disney + in the US. That should excite the Kids for at least a week. ;)

The more I listen to the Frozen 2 Soundtrack, the more I think I like it better than the original. Still, both movies provided some really amazing songs, like Lost in the Woods, Let it Go, Love is an Open Door, and, probably the best Frozen Song, Show Yourself.

I'm sure most of you heard the news that Onward will show up on Disney+ on April 3. A shockingly early debut for a movie that prominent, obviously due to theaters being shut down.

And I know everyone is already discussing the casting news for the second season of The Mandalorian over in the Mando thread.

The ones who care have likely also heard that the launch of D+ is being pushed back in both France and India. Because of covid-19 in both countries, though specifically because the French govt asked them to hold off so the internet wouldn't be overloaded, and because in India they were planning that the launch would coincide with the new IPL season, which has of course been postponed.

Here's the list of new stuff that showed up (in the US) this week:

Two finales this week, but Disney Insider started up this week, and the cooking show will start next week. And Frozen 2 has already surely seen a ton of views.

Finally, in case you missed it, Disney confirmed that for UK, France, Germany, etc, The Mandalorian and all the "D+ Original" shows would have their episodes released weekly. Although it's still not entirely clear. Apparently Mandalorian will have episodes 1 and 2 at launch on the 24th, and then episode 3 will be released a few days later on Friday the 27th, and then it would take 5 more Fridays to finish the season.

Clone Wars Season 7 will have episodes 1 and 2 at launch, and then episodes 3 and 4 on Friday the 27th. Two more episodes on April 3 (when the US will be up to ep 7), and then episodes 7 and 8 on April 10 will get them fully caught up with US/Australia/etc, after which Clone Wars will go back to the normal one-per-week schedule in Europe.

What's not entirely clear is whether this will apply equally to other original shows like Diary of a Future President, Shop Class, or Jeff Goldblum. Seemingly, the plan is for one episode of each to be available at launch, with single episodes every Friday afterwards. Seemingly. Would they care enough to "catch up" Shop Class (or One Day at Disney) the way they're doing it with Clone Wars? Who knows? Also a mystery: will the sudden delay of the French launch push everything back a few weeks, leaving them a few weeks behind their German friends when it comes to Mandalorian, etc, or will they magically catch up with Germany and the UK when they finally do launch?
