Things that frustrate us all

I totally had to Google what the heck an "advanced" green was. We don't have that here. It's just red or green---stop or go, assuming the driver is even paying attention to the light in the first place.

If I understand correctly what an "advanced green" is, we have the same thing here, except that it's indicated by a green left arrow.

AH! Now THAT I understand.

Oh, sorry, I didn't realize that wasn't a universal term! :alienblush: Ours are usually indicated by a green left arrow too. (They can also be indicated by a flashing green light, but you don't really see those much anymore.) Just out of curiosity, if you don't use the term advanced green, what do you call them?

I still have no idea what you guys and gals are talking about, but I’m glad you’re safe, AA!
Some people shouldn’t be allowed to drive.... :borg:

My dryer has a big hole in the hose and got lent all over the place. Now the hose is out of the wall and my husband went to find a replacement for it. I want to do laundry!!

And you're probably not even Catholic! :)

^ I loathe ironing. Washing is ok.

argh of the week, not just of the day: my [insert foul swear words here] anxiety fits are back with a vengeance. I've been fighting them since Thursday and at least now I am ready to mention them (without freezing with fear). I'm gradually pulling myself out of the emotional mud by my own plait but it's a painful and tiresome process. Gonna get professional help but there's no free space with a therapeut until the end of the year. At least I have an appointment for an interview with a specialist at the psychiatric clinic in a fortnight and then might perhaps be able to get infrequent sessions there till I can start a real therapy. I'm strong enough to survive without meds and frequent therapy. I just need someone to lean on for a bit until I regain my emotional balance.
When I'm in trouble, I tend to withdraw. So don't worry if you see less of me online than usual. I'm definitely not suicidal (I might overendulge in chocolate, though :D )

hmm, tricky one. Unfortunately, I was raised a lady and therefore never learned any such vocabulary. My current choice of adjectives (after a whole package of chocolates and the resulting dampening effect on my problems) would be "scheiß/mistige/saublöde/gottverdammte" [shitty/manure-y/sew-dumb/goddamn] Angst. - hey, that actually helped! Thanks :) :bolian::techman:
Not having a Lounge
Everyone and their granny has a Lounge
You're a Flaptain and they have their own lounge. If you go to the board index and have a look at the section "lounges" you ought to see it right under MISC. Been there (twice, actually, as I left as a Flaptain, returned and went through the ranks again), made lots of friends and posted like crazy :)

Sorry about the anxiety. It's terrible that it takes so long to get a regular therapist.

I like the German sweary words, very nice
As for the Lounge debate, I meant as opposed to the Down Under one, the German one and the (I think) Dutch one, but I was being flippant ;)

I've been looking online to extend my vocabulary and while there are gazillions of very nasty German nouns, we appear to have hardly any derogatory adjectives at all. A definite drawback when you feel the urge to let off steam. I has assumed that the "language of poets and thinkers" would be as rich in its more darker aspects as it is in the poetic or scientific sector. And my native Bavarian, usually a reliably picturesque language, appears to suffer from the same deficiency. Utterly frustrating! (But after 45 years I now finally understand why our religion teacher used to swear in Swahili)

Which country do you hail from, DeltaVega? By the location in your profile I had assumed that you were Australian. A professional prejudice, I'm afraid: as a biologist, when I read 'great barrier' I first think of the famous reef.

When someone from two rows behind taps you on the shoulder and tells you to stop using your camera phone at an event. There's already half a dozen people around you doing the same thing, even after you've turned it off, and you can see a phone screen or flash illuminating your row every now and then from behind as well.

To be fair, I try not to be 'that guy' at events. I'm mostly discreet and limit usage. I like to capture memories though.

No one seemed to be freaking out with the amount of surround sound coughing in the concert hall despite the coronavirus threat, or when people were regularly getting out of their seat in the middle of the show. (Which is more distracting and annoying.) The mind boggles.

My streak of perfect reviews was broken this year ... I've had five Significantly Exceeds in a row, and this year I only got an Exceeds Expectations. I totally understand they have to spread them out on a curve, but I used to be a unanimous consensus for the top rating.
