The writers could come up with a reason, though I don't think they should go down the divorce route unless they're slavish on adhering to the future Jean-Luc and Beverly relationship dynamic from the TNG finale the way they've strongly alluded to Irumodic Syndrome at least two or three times thus far.

It would be quite irritating for that to be the reason.

Irumodic Syndrome still being a thing is fine with me. Having them be divorced just because that's what happened to them in the anti-time future of "All Good Things...(TNG)" isn't.

And Picard and Crusher had zero chemistry in the TNG films. Apparently they completely lost interest in each other once Picard realized that his true soul mate was Data.
He's like the son he never had, but without all than annoying child/teen stuff.

I’m not thinking divorce because it was in AGT (still the best TNG movie ever). I was thinking it because I think she’s going to show up or we’re going to have more about that relationship be revealed in this season. She’s either dead or not, and I don’t think they’re still playing “will they/won’t they” with this relationship. All the other characters have been mentioned so far and she hasn’t. That means it wasn’t an easy parting, that leaves it open to divorce, and that leaves it open to her being really against him, maybe on the bridge of a flying battleship like the Enterprise.

I think there’s room for the relationship between/during NEM 20 years ago(?) and PIC 14 years ago.

It’s just one idea. Maybe it’s too arch an idea anyway. And Chabon isn’t a ship guy, so maybe he wouldn’t think to do anything that theatrical. I am curious how she plays into this though. The only thing I’d hate is for her to not at all. Dude, she’s a member of the original 7, and a hugely significant part of Jean-Luc Picard’s life. Respect where due.

Or Picard is so consumed with personal problems that other relationships became difficult to manage. Picard is still recovering from a deep bout of depression. It may have not been an easy parting because of how Picard handled the Romulan situation.

Well one of the writers has said none of the TNG main cast is dead (yet).
That’s wonderful news! I was fearing that with the more somber tone of this series, we were going to see him start Irumodic hallucinating the spirit of his dead beloved, and that’s how she’d have shown up in the series.

I'm glad. I'd like to think Geordi wasn't at Utopia Planitia during the Synth attack on Mars or at least escaped before his orbital or surface facility was attacked.

So does having an agent who doesn't get you in a Short Trek or episode where you die.

Geordi was already established in the show as being alive in 2399, since Picard didn’t want to call on him, Worf, or Riker for help. What wasn’t established was Geordi being anywhere near Utopia Planitia in the 2380’s. That’s just from the non canon comic tie-in.

Divorce? That was AGT. If Picard had been married to Beverly in this timeline, I think we would have heard about it by now.
If we treat book as canon, they have parted ways around 2381 when Picard was promoted to Admiral without ever being closer than what we saw in TNG and movies.

They would have to create a brand-new CGI model for the Enterprise-E, just like they did with the D. The last time we saw it was in 2002 for Star Trek: Nemesis. An 18 year old CGI model will not work today. So there’s no cost difference between making a CGI E than any other design. And if they want to sell merchandise, they’re not going to reuse a design that already has toys, model kits, video games, and any other marketable things devoted to it. They’re going to want new stuff to market. That’s why we got the Discoprise instead of the TOS Enterprise in DSC.
Sure it can work today, it looked fine in Nemesis and we don't need lingering closeups (and even if we do - that's just textures). If they wanna sell new models, they can simply refit the E to change her a bit.
