Better Call Saul, the TV series

It's been a long time since I watched BB, and El Camino didn't get into it at all. How much of Saul's involvement were the police aware of? I recall his panicked bug-out from his office, but I can't remember if that was because the cops knew what was going on, or if it was the impending arrival of some rival drug lord retribution for something. Honestly can't recall.

Me too! And really, it seems to me that virtually everyone who could have a beef with Jimmy is dead.

So... perhaps the big twist at the end of Better Call Saul is that he simply gone paranoid and all his fear is unjustified...?

I seriously doubt this will happen considering where he ends up by the end of El Camino, but maybe it's Jesse to tell him everyone is dead (including Walt)?

^He likely knows. It was all over the news as shown in El Camino. If I was in his shoes, I'd keep an eye on what's going in Albuquerque. He's smart and savvy enough to do it without exposing himself. Walking over to the Apple store and check the crime and legal news in Albuquerque on one of the devices on display time to time, on a break.

Skyler at this point has told them everything she knows.

It’s unclear if they have enough to convict him. But they know enough to get warrants.

Speculation: I think by the end of the series, Lalo will end up in prison. In Breaking Bad, Saul is probably fearful that Lalo got out early or he thinks Lalo sent Walter and Jesse after him when he says, "I wasn't me! It was Ignacio!!!"

I think Lalo managed to get out by the time Gene is at Cinnabon. And I think he keeps fearing Lalo or his men could come at any time to kill him. That's how I see the endgame for Better Call Saul.

Hooray! Not just Hank, but also Gomey! I figured we would get both, but I was still a little worried since the preseason trailer only showed Hank. Good to see them again. :D

My heart continues to ache for Kim. She clearly loves the work she does on the side with pro bono cases and while she understands the importance of doing the bigger cases for Mesa Verde, she still finds it frustrating to pulled away from her passion to deal with a stubborn old man who simply refuses to reason. Even when Kim goes above and beyond to help him. That said, I also understand his stubbornness, so there's no easy answers to be found here.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

Which, of course, means Lalo is killed halfway through the season and Saul never finds out but the endgame is different anyways. ;)

Fring explicitly told Hector “Now the Salamanca line ends with you” after he got back from poisoning the bosses. If Lalo is alive, Fring has no idea.

I think you forget that Skyler at the end has told everyone every single thing she knows. She can and would testify against Saul. And also remember nobody ever got convicted, everyone culpable either escaped or died. They want Saul and Jesse in prison bad and very publicly.

Cool to see Hank. It’s getting to the point though many of the actors need more young person makeup.

It’s interesting to see how much Kim loathes working for Mesa Verde now. She can’t consolidate her professional goals and her morality any more.

I heard one of the writers mused that we don’t know how much time has passed in Nebraska and for all we know, Walter is still in New Hampshire.

I guess they don’t know about the two guys who first helped Jesse sell for Walter, then helped him hide and dump the El Camino...

Wait. One of them was arrested...

Badger and Pete? They are a year removed from any evidence connecting them and a low end dealer won’t make any headlines.

They were charged with what, aiding and abetting?

Yes, it was great to see Hank and Gomie again.

We need an alternate timeline where Walt doesn’t go on the ride-along with Hank.

That’d be interesting. Or one where Walt never gets cancer.

That timeline might just be the “Fring wins story”. Although I guess if it were Gale in Mexico instead of Jesse that might be the last episode.

One more interesting thing we’re seeing is how Fring deals with Mike versus how he deals with Nacho. It’s like a before and after pic of how he dealt with Walter.

From Mike, he wants commitment. He wants Mike to give his absolute loyalty to him and feel like it was his idea. So Mike can withhold information about Nacho, vent at him about having to kill Werner, and for him it’s okay. Because Fring sees him as a reliable long term asset who just needs to be molded into the right mindset. Just as he did for Walt.

I’ve been wondering when Fring will invite Mike over for dinner.

Nacho on the other hand is a short term tool he has no intention of letting live. So he just gets beaten and his family threatened.

I only just got around to reading the A.V. Club review for this episode and they pointed out something I completely missed: The homeowner that Kim has to deal with was played by the one and only Barry Corbin! I didn't even recognize him!

Clearly I need to go back and rewatch those scenes.
