Series 13 not shooting until September

Even if you could do 13 episodes a year, increasing the workload for the actors isn't so easy - especially when they like to avoid being type cast and appear in other shows and movies; instead of signing on to 2 or 3 years of an essentially exclusive commitment to a single project.
It is theoretically possible to do perhaps 15-18 episodes a season if you prepare your scripts well in advance, block out your acting commitments for a single period of time to shoot episodes back to back. But with the current trend of 13 shows per season, I just can't imagine anyone trying to squeeze in more, no matter how beloved the franchise.
The SJA was an aim to bring a show specifically targeting kids while still being in the Doctor Who universe.

That makes sense to me. Graham and Ryan have had the most character development while, unfortunately, Yaz hasn't gotten nearly as much beyond her family. Having her as the sole companion will allow her to shine like we saw in "Fugitive of the Judoon" and "Praxeus."

I'll miss Graham but his story has been satisfactorily told, as punctuated by "Can You Hear Me?" That said, I was kind of hoping to see some kind of follow-up to his encounter with the ghosts at Villa Diodati, but I suppose it's better to leave that unanswered.

And Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole are out of the show. Shame in Walsh's case- he's been the best actor and best character. I wonder if was a decision of both of them, or if one's unavailability made the other unnecessary, since their characters are linked. They need to ditch Yaz as well, and start from scratch.

What I'd like to happen: The Doctor and Yaz.
What will happen: Chibnall will stick another three companions in there so Yaz and the Doctor will end up with even less screen time.

And all of them will be modern day humans... again. With a whole other galaxy to explore on top of ours now, with millions more planets, eons of time, countless more civilizations to meet? And her own home planet loaded with virtual immortals? Naah, just stay on Earth and bask and wallow in maudlin soap opera and wait for every invader to arrive. ##WIN!!

I really don't care about how Chibmeister gets it done. I don't want to wait every two years for a subpar set of episodes, including one that is basically a giant middle finger to all fans. Its bad enough the wait, but if we were getting shows that rivaled in quality the series 4-5 era, I'd be contend. Really. At least we'd get some semblance of quality stories.

I argue we don't anymore. Two series in, and not one solid classic.

I agree. It would be worth the wait if we could get stories on par with Eccleston/Tennant, but alas those days are behind us I think.

I've come to love series 10, so in retrospect, while I didn't like the wait between 9 and 10, we at least got some quality episodes inbetween. Especially that Cybermen two-parter (plus the Christmas episode). I can't say this now, and I think I am known for not being anti-woke, anti-female or whatever. None of that. I just don't think Chibs the right guy for the job. Period.

Interesting quote from that Mirror article.

He said ahead of the latest series: “We have great fun doing it. But you must sleep and look after yourself, because if you don’t, you will come unstuck.

"This is 10 months of ramming speed. That’s what it is. I’m in my 60th year. It’s tough. It’s hard. It’s relentless. It really is. This ain't an easy gig.”

I can easily see this being a mutual decision for both of them. Walsh because he's so busy, Cole because by the standards of Doctor Who companions he's put his time in.

If anything, it's kind of surprising Mandip Gill's staying, not that I'm complaining. Assuming she's there for the whole season, she will actually be the only modern day companion to have done three full seasons.

Eh, he's not really saying anything new. Capaldi made similar comments after his first season.

^Interesting from the point of view of how much time filming a series takes.

It may be that Gill is staying in an interim capacity, handing over to a new companion(s) midway like Amy and Rory did.

It will be interesting to see whether losing Walsh allows Jodie to fill the space as it were, or whether it becomes apparent how much heavy lifting his presence was doing?

The early runs weren't as good as fans make it out to be. Basically it's the companion stumbles into a problem, the Doctor yells a lot, everybody runs and the problem is fixed with the sonic screwdriver. The only thing going for them was the novelty of being new.
