You know it's a good Trek thread when we are talking about bringing balance and state things in Yodaism :)

Season 1 was great, Season 2 was disappointing, season 3 seems promising. I'd place Picard right there with season 1 and way above season 2

You gotta rate it. We're never going to get 26-episode seasons, nor 7 season shows anymore. Discovery IS what it is, we can't wait for it to show it's true colors after season 3 or 4. Chances are Discovery and Picard will not last more than 3 seasons at best, so we have already seen ~70% (29 out of 42 total committed episodes) of all of Discovery and already 25% of all of Picard (assuming full 10 episode season 2, they may make it shorter than 10). That's plenty of material to start judging a series.

I'm not sure CBS has the same incentives for doing only a few seasons of shows that Netflix has.

It's promising so far and I am enjoying each episode but I'll wait til the final to declare if its good star trek or not. I doubt I'll enjoy it more than TOS, TNG, DS9 and Voyager but I'll still watch it as its good tv, its still canon and captain picard on my screen is always welcome.

I've had some reservations, but I'm really enjoying it so far. The best moments have been exceptional.

Discovery is what it is, and there is some complete data to rate there if you want to (certainly no one HAS to by any means). Picard hasn't even finished a single story yet and the landing being rather important to my rating of any serialized show, rating Picard now would be utterly ridiculous.

Also, that 3 seasons bit is a wildly unsupported assumption, especially about Discovery which is already filming its 3rd season with no indication whatsoever about it being near done.

Couple things i like about PIC

The flashbacks remove the need for clumsy exposition.
The 'absolute candor' conceit allowed character explanation within a believable framework.

But what about those of us who only kinda like it in some ways and in other ways not so much? I shall create the "Picard is ehhhh okay Star Trek" thread. Not really.

But I would add as an addendum that it could end up being really good Trek depending on where it goes. 5 episodes is quite a snap judgment either way.

At least we can all agree that Star Trek Picard is not Star Wars. Or Star Craft. Or Star Search. Or Starman (the song and the movie). Or Star, the TV series created by Lee Daniels that ran from 2016 to 2019.

While I do enjoy PIC on its own merits, it also had the advantage of a lead character whose personality, backstory and character were fairly familiar to most of the audience. That helps a lot.

But it does feel like a modern take on what TNG stood for that I didn't think I wanted or needed after TNG overload (and not an insignificant amount of irrational hate after the Enterprise finale as a teen all those years ago  )

How about Flaming Star, an Elvis Presley movie from 1960? :D

I enjoyed Star Trek when every character wasn’t sullen, depressed, thought of space as cold Dangerous, when they looked forward to being explorers. So I differ from the posters declaration
