Seriously, I've never been, but I understand that there's no shortage of entertainment options even if you're not into gambling and brothels: shows, rides, exhibits, glitz, etc. Even the occasional STAR TREK convention.

Why not? In other shows, they broke the fifth wall many times, sometimes they are even customary of it. Acknowledging Star Trek conventions would not even qualify as original as far as that goes.
