This has definitely been the theme of these first episodes. I think there are also dimensions to Picard's rediscovery of himself. I think we are moving away from the man who accept being turned down by Clancy and could summon greater rhetorical force.
I believe so but with an ability for nuance and compromise to pragmatism that the old Picard didn't have. Like the scene with the nun and he said he let the perfect become the enemy of the good. He's learning to see imperfect solutions are not failures however perfect you wish the intentions could be realized.

You mean, like Maddox and Icheb? (jk)

Heh. I was about to say... TNG was my default Trek when I was a kid, but DS9 became my default as I got older. Now, the older I get, the more TNG is becoming difficult to watch, in fact. Also, I became a Whovian pretty much instantly when my local PBS station began showing Series One in 2007 (two years late is better than never, eh?)
Im going to be honest i forgot who Maddox was untill i looked him up

My Whovian experience began with Tom Baker.
(1978 on PBS in the USA)

Yes, I'm getting to be that old ...

Hmmm... I thought most Orville Fans were TNG Fans.

Granted, the only Orville Fans I've really had much interaction with are of the "STD Sucks!" variety. So I might not be getting an accurate picture.
well it is TNG withe the serial numbers filed off butt im fine with that

The preview suggests that this will probably be the wildest episode of the season. Kinda like MTMTSMGM in Disco S1. I'm worried it's gonna be too odd and silly to fully enjoy, but Wil Wheaton loved it. The glowing angel wings somebody is wearing made me wonder if it's gonna be a place where everyone can have a personalized avatar like in the Oasis from Ready Player One. The episode seems to be the one that could stand out the most, and I'm glad there'll be a real change now, since the first 4 seemed to drag out a little too long with no big changes. And I absolutely hope that bearded guy we've been seeing is not the actual Maddox, but just a decoy or him in a mask ;)
I doubt he is a decoy. But what do i know

We can certainly critique the portrayal of Picard as a moral character. However, the series does take fundamental properties of the character we knew from TNG and makes them central to the development of the story.
picard wasnt in question for me its the story telling i dont like. Sir Pat is on top form as always

Indeed. Despite my general disinterest in TNG (not for me and all that) Picard is doing what I wish Star Trek would do more often-follow up with consequences. We have Soong-type Androids, the nature of synthetics and their rights (compare that with holograms), the Romulan supernova and the fact that Picard eventually gave up.

Those are all perfect seeds for drama and rife for conflict. That's part of drama. The Federation has gone through a significant upheaval (the Dominion War), on top of managing several other threats (Borg, Son'a, Scimitar, Klingons). All that is going to take its toll.

Let's explore that toll on a deeply personal level.

Im going to be frank Im not in the best place in my life right now and im not in the mood for dark and gritty maybe years later when everything i will re evaluate this show. Star Trek is my comfort show. Who knows people hate Enterprise I like it only time will tell DSC and PIC just not for me right now

And that's completely fair. I'm in a dark place too and I like shows like DSC and Picard becomes it shows characters enduring. I need that reminder from time to time.

But, I am terrible when it comes to comfort food type stuff. My entertainment is more with video games, and things like Star Trek I prefer for character stuff.

Which is fair. There are still Star Trek series that already exist that can provide you what you want and need.
Yup. Comfort food is generally familiar. Picard is not that.

Life exists within the shades of gray.

Or they watch "The Orville".

For the Millenials, The Union is the Federation, The Moclans are the Klingons, and Isaac is Data:guffaw::lol::lol:

On a more serious note, 'The Orville' is our alt-Trek series during the dark days of 'Discovery' Season 1, where Klingons become completely unrecognizable and we wonder whether the new show-runners could really get what Trek is about.

'Picard' does bring us hope that Kurtzman & Co is finally getting their Trek right. The last episode might be too dark for some viewers, but I love Seven's transformation to become a female Terminator. I can understand why she becomes the person she is now due to the traumas she's endured for the past two decades of her life.

Im pretty sure no one who saw the movie (or had brain cells) at the time realy would have thought that
There was though, quite a discussion about the three actors that portrayed young Spock and how much they did or didn't look apropos.

Albeit the discussions took place at Trek Conventions and in Trek Magazines since The Internet was still a ways off back then.

Normally I prefer video games but i juts have no desire to play anything but STO right now. I am the opposite i like watching teh sad stuff when im happy
