re: Manu Iniraymi
I stumbled upon an old tweet of him. Looks like he's more interested in playing a part in The Orville anyway. #dignity

Pretty much my feeling. The moment I saw Wesley I wanted him dead. That and Riker giving commands on the bridge when the captain is sitting right there in charge. Time for for Riker to get a beating with the old chain of command was my reaction.

Wesley could have easily worked, and ol Wil Wheatons entire life would be different now if he had a new character treatment and good direction.

Make him surlier, arrogant and RIGHT. I don't mean teen-ager surly, but not the wide-eyed GEEE GAWRSSSHHHH guy he was. Dude grew up an orphan. Give him flaws.

Another great episode. I was a little disappointed they recast Icheb and Maddox, I was really hoping we'd be getting all the original cast members for those kinds of characters.
Icheb's death was sad, but I can see why they did it, since it was a good way to get Seven where they wanted her.
Necar Zadigan's character was a pretty good villain.
I was really surprised they found and killed off Maddox so quickly. I assumed we wouldn't see him until at least season finale.
It looks like I was right and Jurati is spying for the Oh. I'm very curious what Oh showed her that was so bad she killed Maddox over it.

Dumbest episode of the show so far but probably the most enjoyable. Definitely a turn your brain off and just enjoy the absurdity and action episode. The pacing on this show is atrocious though, this probably should have been episode 3 if the show had any competent editors.

That said... so the Federation now doesn't give a crap that crime cartels are ambushing their ships, kidnapping their officers and ripping them apart for parts?

Jammer’s review is up, and it sure doesn’t sit on the fence.

My biggest disappointment out of this whole experience is that Jammer isn't on board. He's not a Roddenberry Purist. He's a DS9 and BSG guy. Oh well.

EDIT: This is the first time in the current era that he's ever given an episode 1.5 stars out of four. The lowest he ever gave Discovery was 2. So much for "Everyone likes Picard better than Discovery!"

Disliking this episode doesn’t mean you’re turning on the show, necessarily. I gave last week’s the highest score since the premiere and this the lowest by far, but it’s just one episode.

I don't disagree with you. What you're saying is right. But...

3, 2.5, 2.5, 2.5, 1.5 are his ratings. That paints a picture of he liked the first episode, then it's been "meh" ever since. I wouldn't go so far as to say he's turned on it. More like he feels, "Ehhhh...." That's my sense.

Alas you weren't alone, the alt.wesley.crusher.die.die.die newsgroup wasn't exactly an empty corner of the internet. The hate towards Wesley, and many people who directed it at Wil Wheaton, really hurt him.

Personally I loved the character. So did Larry Niven.

That and Riker giving commands on the bridge when the captain is sitting right there in charge.

Were they orders Picard wouldn't have given? Very occasionally, but Picard has bigger concerns than shouting 'shields up, red alert', he can delegate menial tasks to Riker

Time for for Riker to get a beating with the old chain of command was my reaction.

Literally a two part episode for that

This is the first episode I’ve disliked. The opening was gratuitous, the Rafi and son scene was hamhanded and having both Seven and Jurati be murderers does not sit well - particularly the latter.

A 4/5 strike rate is damned good for S1 of a Trek series, but unlike the old forgettable standalones, the consequences of these episodes carries over. There had better be a very good explanation for that Jurati did (hopefully not a simple copout like brainwashing from Oh).

I am really curious to know if they'll be able to make sense of Jurati's sibylline words...

I hope it won't be an anti-climactic conclusion as sometimes happens.
