From what we last saw of her, probably busy being admiraly. If they wanted to work it in for a future Seven appearance, they might touch upon Seven thematically having been another abandoned child.

I love TNG, but the show loved to hit us over the the head with how superior its version of humanity was to everyone else; and it's come out in the wash over the years that a lot of Trek fans didn't like the show specifically because of that aspect. Having one wry observer among a group of humans who've improved but admit they're still working on it is more likable than having an entire crew of humans who are constantly reminding us how perfect they're supposed to be. It's an aspect of the show that hasn't aged well.
TNG's evolved humanity annoyed the hell out of me. It was good there was no internet back then because I'd have been one of the annoying hate watchers.

When Picard told Data that he should have left the (20th century) people dead instead of reviving them, I didn't think that was very evolved of him.

What prick would say something like that!!!

I try not to hold that episode too much against TNG for production reality reasons--it could have used a polishing that it wasn't allowed to have because of the writers' strike.

I was surprised to find, early on hanging around these parts, that there was a distinct subset of fandom who originally loved TOS, loved DS9, held their noses at TNG.
I wasn't around then but its probably because they felt that TNG tended to be a bit too holier than thou at times.

It never really bothered me (I was a kid anyway) but the tone definitely changed in TNG from what went before.

Pretty much my feeling. The moment I saw Wesley I wanted him dead. That and Riker giving commands on the bridge when the captain is sitting right there in charge. Time for for Riker to get a beating with the old chain of command was my reaction.

I do dimly recall the screams when we got the first look at the Captains chair which now had seats either side as well.

Lots of moaning along the lines of "Led by committee rather than an actual leader."

Wesley didn't bother me, I did find the first season to be a bit boring but it was necessary to properly set the scene for everything that came after.

there was internet during TNG, it received plenty of hate from some TOS purists on the Usenet newsgroups. But there was no World Wide Web, so not everyone had internet access.

It's a real meltdown over there. TNG purists are getting more and more upset that not only is their Trek not seen as the definitive Trek anymore, but that their era is getting the same kind of treatment their Trek laid on TOS.

The comments over on Jammer's page are actually much more sensible that his review, on average. I'm not sure I've seen that hapoen before.

I actually agree with a lot of Jammer's points about the episode (I think it's the weakest episode to date, but not horrible), but the comment sections have become unreadable due to the hundreds of replies back and forth which are mostly about what "real Star Trek" rather than actually discussing the episode.

The man needs to just set up a general discussion forum for his reviews, and shunt the off-topic stuff there.

Christ, are people really bothered that they recast Maddox, a one off character? The fella has been retired for years and probably wasn't interested or on holiday.
Not really. I'm more "bothered" that Maddox doesn't have a more prominent role.

As I said upthread, it's crazy to me that the "big reveal" we got from Maddox was basically stuff that we, as the viewers, knew already. It seems like he was a lone actor fumbling his way through things who hadn't put together many of the pieces himself yet. Meaning there was absolutely zero plot development in this episode - just more table setting.

Holding down that kind of day at Caltech job would be fair grounds for turning down a gig, if he'd been informed in the first place. But what happened, happened.

TNG wasn't seen as the definitive Star Trek since season 3 of DS9

Like when Picard treated regular people from the 20th century like they were war criminals or something. There was a house wife a stock broker and a country singer hardly the worst humanity has to offer
