Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

While Enterprise is conveniently the only ship around in TMP, the novelization talks about massive stationary firepower around Earth. This naturally turns out to be no use at all against such a technologically superior enemy. Don't recall if any of that dialogue made it into the film.

CHEKOV: All planetary defense systems have just gone inoperative!

... and Light has been around for some time also...

Flashlights, Phasers, Lasers, Disruptors.
Fleshlights?

<chuckle>
They're the 60's version of Milli Vanilli, ... when doing it LIVE wasn't faked.
Not seeing the equivalency; whether they were live or lip-syncing for a TV performance (as was common practice), they were using their own voices.

As I recall it, Kirk was applying for a specific position that entailed promotion and was based at Yorktown Station. Nothing explicitly says he would've been subordinate to the Commodore or that his rank would be contingent on staying in that position forever. As far as I can recall, nothing in the movie ever even says the officer he's talking to is even a Commodore in the first place, though the bts people apparently decided she was for some reason.
Spock calls her "Commodore Paris" right at the end at Kirk's birthday party.

Here's the Rank Pips for Picard, straight from the Show's Prop Master...

Yeah, that's horrible.

...

What's the rank above Ensign? Do you have the source?

Academy Cadet ?

Traditionally, a black pip has represented a Chief (Petty Officer) like O'Brien for many years until they retconned his insignia. We've seen black pippers before O'Brien, like the teacher Ms. Gladstone, who's rank was otherwise undefined. The first edition of the Encyclopedia called it a Chief Warrant Officer insignia. FASA, I believe, referred to it as an "Ensign, Junior Grade" in early TNG-based material.

I've never seen it used for Cadets, Midshipmen, or Crewmen before. I'm interested in what the Star Trek: Picard production defines it as, but can't for the life of me find the video the screenshot is taken from.

Any help, @DaveyNY would be appreciated!

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it. It's defined as "Chief Warrant Officer" in the propmaster video on StarTrek.com.

Seven of Nine is definitely going to be putting any new Borg Queen in her place this time.

not seeing a lot of meat on this plate...merging into the General Discussion thread.

Off-Topic: Back in 1997, I bought a Klingon headpiece. Just the forehead and the hair. I thought I lost it years ago.

Right now, I'm going through a bunch of old stuff... and I just found it! As in literally just right now. All I need is to put on brown make-up, get a fake beard, and I'm good to go if I ever want to be a Klingon again for Halloween.
