You mean like Call the Midwife, Silent Witness, Death in Paradise...?
Speaking of Death in Paradise, the Detective Inspector regenerated again this year.

It's also taken them YEARS two release two seasons of Lost in Space.
.
maybe this is more accurate then one would think?Increasingly it looks like RTD was some kind of superhuman and I'm amazed he didn't kill himself through overwork (though another thought, outside of Planet of the Dead how often did Who film abroad in those days?)

IMO, releasing all episodes at once is even worse. I'm really not a fan of binge watching, and I'm glad that even the streaming services are starting to go back to weekly episode releases. Having weekly episode releases actually helps me get through the week by giving me something to look forward to. I'd rather have weekly releases of "subpar viewing" than a full season of excellence dropped all at once.If you cant have that, then at least have the courtesy of releasing all episodes at once.
I agree, I like have the next episode of a favourite show drop once a week rather than bang that's the lot for the next 18 months.IMO, releasing all episodes at once is even worse. A new series every year but only 8 episodes?
And don't shoot outside the U.K (for example the current season of Doctor Who spent a chunk of time filming in South Africa).
Don't they all have relatively fixed locations/sets? Not sure any of them would have the post production effects work Who has either. I'm not wholly disagreeing because they do all come back year in year out, but I imagine Who is a much harder beast to make.

It is annoying though, especially just as Jodie is growing into the role. She needs momentum. Good job they've already filmed the Christmas/NY special at least!
Meh. Gaps happen, especially with short seasons.
No sense getting all twisted about it.
Annual eight episode seasons would be my preference of these options.Talking of which, if you had the choice of the below options, which would you choose given they all effectively amount to the same number of episodes over time?
- A new series every year but only 8 episodes?
- A new series every eighteen months of 12 episodes?
- A new series every two years of 16 episodes?
I suspect season thirteen will stay at ten episodes, but if that is indeed Whittaker's last season and season fourteen introduces a new Doctor, it would not surprise me if that had a reduced episode count.I do wonder if the BBC have considered cutting the number of episodes again?
IIRC, one of the co-production deals basically ensures the show until a season 15. So even if season 13 is Whittaker's final season (which is likely) we're guaranteed at least two seasons with another Doctor, and if these gaps continue, we're guaranteed Doctor Who until the end of 2024.
Just ask netflix for the money and let them co-produce. The show is frankly bigger than the BBC and it's budget at this stage.
