Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

It's basically the TOS ship with new impulse vents and a taller bridge deck and without the plasma weapon launcher. I could definitely believe this was a variant from the 2270s or 2280s and just one step up from what we saw the Romulans use at the time of Kirk's first five-year mission.

Yeah. How many ships have bottomless pits on the lowest deck? ;)

Going back a fair ways here but I always assumed that was a turboshaft with inverted gravity and the Viceroy ended up smacked up against the bottom of the saucer section somewhere. It even kinda looks like the orientation changes when Riker throws the Viceroy through the doorway.

That would be my rationalization for it, but I don't think for a second that it was the filmmakers' intent.

I like that idea for the pit, but there's still the fact that the scene is on Deck 29 when Picard claimed that the Enterprise E had 24 decks in First Contact. That said, Picard was already contradicted in the same movie by the existence of Deck 26, so maybe Picard was mistaken or lying.

While I assume the Romulan Bird of Prey is a crusty old antique from the TOS era, I recall Nero had one or two ships of that design parked inside the Narada and he was from 2387.
I.. do not... recall. There were TOS BOPs in Nero's ship? Pics, or it didn't happen...

The door numbers indicate that the Remans have already made their way up to deck 9 when they encounter the security team. You can fall down almost 50 meters from there.

Picard mentions 24 decks when specifically asked about the size of the ship, the MSD shows 24 decks, and the windows indicate about 24 decks as well. In my book there are no decks 25-29.

What is canon, visuals or dialogue?

But in this case the writers appear to have made a mistake, and someone has to be wrong - either Picard (about there being exactly 24 decks), or Worf and Daniels (about there being more than 24 decks). So I think it can only be decided by the visual evidence, which points to 24 decks.

You're not wrong to interpret it that way, but either way, mistakes were made and the fans were left to decide what's true.

I'm between editing software at the moment, but I can tell you it's visible when Spock flies the Jellyfish out of Narada. I remember adjusting the brightness of a screencap many, many years ago to make it clearer.
