The Romulan Supernova: The final, canon word

While Chabon is the Picard showrunner, Kurtzman oversees the entire franchise. Nothing gets made without his blessing, and I can't believe he doesn't have input on what is being made.

Just like Ira Steven-Behr was the showrunner on DS9, but nothing got made without Berman's consent.
Ummm... actually, there were a few times when Ira did things without Berman's blessing.
DS-9 was his baby, Berman was just the 'granpa' paying all the bills.
;)

I think Niners play that up more than it actually happened. Many don't like having Rick Berman associated with their show, though he is one of the co-creators. Like folks who like Picard but dislike the Abramsverse and/or Discovery have begun to try to put some distance between the them.

It was a derail caused by reactions to my saying that Kurtzman decided to retcon the events of ST: 2009 re: the Romulan Supernova. It seemed unlikely to me that Kurtzman did not approve the retcons whether he personally thought them up or not.

Actually, it was because you keep bringing Mr. Kurtzman up as being the 'Dr. Evil' to all things Trek.

No, it was just people saying that he was not the showrunner. Well, whoever came up with the idea to retcon the Supernova events, he approved of it. Nothing to do with being a "Dr Evil".

Does it really matter in the grand scheme of things? Chabon is the showrunner (head writer), that came in June of last year. I'm sure Kurtzman had input as his name is listed as a co-creator, IIRC.

It only matters to online circles.

So it's decided, Kurtzman isn't the showrunner.

I feel like it all doesn't matter who has what title. Kurtzman's being treated by the fanbase the same way Berman was - anything we like about Star Trek is in spite of him. Anything we hate about Star Trek is his fault.

I miss the days when Berman & Braga were shortened to B&B, and calling them 'The Beebs' was considered the absolute height of wit.

So, should we call Kurtzman the New Berman? Call him NB for short.

Fandom needs a devil.

My favorite is blaming Braga for stuff that happened before he was on staff.

And now the conspiracy-addled YouTube grifters pine for Saint Rick.

It would be fun to transport them all back to 1999 and listen to their hot trek takes back then.
