Ian McKellen should appear on Picard

He should play a long-time frenemy of Picard. They have completely different views on solving the galaxy's woes, with McKellen's character having the more extreme approach. But every few years, circumstances force them to work together. And every time, McKellen ends up going off on his own again because they can't quite reconcile their differences.

ETA:
Was he in LotR? Because they already have Legolas with Elnor, so why not some other Rings character?
Yes, he played Gandolf the wizard.

If the rumors of the Maddox recast are true, he should have been Maddox.

He reminds me more of a young Elrond with his dark hair, the sword (Elrond's favored weapon, too.) and even his name starts the same and Elnor is just missing a "d" to have all the letters of Elrond, too. Legolas is just so blond, his most iconic weapon is the bow and otherwise he fights with two long knives.

This is the Picard-related Star Trek character I never knew I needed in my life but now I want it to happen with all my heart.

They do have a lot of magnetism on screen together. Almost like they are telepathically linked.
