Surely something good happened to you today

The weather is incredibly mild. I spend nearly a whole day outside wearing short pants and a T-shirt. The scenery looks nice, pre-Spring-y I'd say.:)

Will finish work early today but will get paid for a full day, which is good because it will be my last day of work until the 18th.So, kind of a mixed bag, but I'm trying to look on the bright side.

Oh, and I had perfect stats today, so yay me.

my sis and I went to see the winter worldcup of disabled sportspeople =) Awesome! And fun to see the world's topmost skiing elite. There were quite a few participants from the last paralympics. The American athlets were best, but the Russians, Swedish and Germans came not far behind. Japan was very strong, too. There was even a team from Brazil and they weren't half bad (#11, 14 and 17 iirc in a field of some 30 starters at the men's long distance race).
The audience was pretty foul, though. Only some 100 spectators and hardly anyone cheered. So my sis and I made a point at applauding every single participant when they started and finished and we actually managed to wake up the audience a bit :D
We'd have liked to watch the races of the blind athlets but unfortunately didn't have the time. We saw the training, though. There's a seeing athlet going in front, wearing a headset. On the small of his back he wears a speaker. His blind team partner follows the directions given. Some teams hardly communicate at all; the Swedish and Japanese in particular only give the smallest of hints. The Austrians on the opposite end of the scale seem to be a very talkative team and give directions every second. It was fascinating to see the different techniques.
The previous weekend there was biathlon and as the weather then was rather warm and rainy, the athletes dubbed it triathlon: skiing, shooting and swimming. The track had pretty bad puddles but all the village helped. At 6 am, some 60 people with shovels and buckets appeared and repaired all the track manually. The athletes and the committee were both perplexed and thrilled :) On Tuesday there was a blizzard and as the word had spread some 200 people came to help prepair the track.
There's a short TV report here: https://www.br.de/mediathek/video/p...al-auf-dem-podest-av:5e39a68f57883e0013c493c9
and a longer one here (it centers on German athlets, but also shows Kendall Gretsch, the American winner of the female competition. IIRC she was also in the last paralympics. The favourite, Oksana Masters, couldn't start - she caught the mean cold germ that almost everyone has atm) https://www.sportschau.de/wintersport/para/video-para-weltcup---der-langlauf-aus-finsterau-100.html
Sorry, both reports are in German but there are a few good articles in English here: https://www.paralympic.org/nordic-skiing

"Church clothes" is an expression--it means your "good" outfits---somewhat dressed up, more formal than everyday, causal outfits; clothes you could/do wear to church.

For me: today I got a much-needed haircut, and the jeans I ordered finally arrived. They fit perfectly.

I see. Thanks for the info.:)

Thanks, auntiehill!
Discofan, I am not a member of the clergy, but do come from a line of ordained ministers and missionaries. :)

Well, the only thing I know about missionaries is... well, I don't know if I should tell it...

Anyway, as a kid, we used to say "Sunday clothes" for our best attire, admittedly for the same reason since Sunday was the day people went to church. I've never been a believer and unless I had to be there for some other reason like a marriage, for example, I would never go to church. As a grown-up, I visited some churches for the works of Art that they contained. Like in Italy for example where amazingly even small churches have works of art by grandmasters to expose.

As for the garments, later in my life things would be kind of reversed as I would wear my nice suits to work and my casual wear off work, especially on Sundays.

That's one of the ironies of life.

I agree. While imo religion is just a sort of moral handrail, I very much appreciate the artwork. I'm curious to see the repairs on Notre Dame - I imagine that adding a steel roof truss must be a considerable problem, statically. After all it weighs maybe 10 times as much as the wooden one and the walls were not built for such a strain. Quite a challenge for the engineers.

Good thing today: after 4 days of agony the inflamed facial nerve finally stopped hurting. Turned out that a wisdom tooth needed a root canal filling. My dentist and I had overlooked that one as it was partly covered on the x-ray by a metal brace from a previous jaw fracture. Only in an extremely high resolution he discovered a shadow peeping out from behind the brace.
It's utter bliss to feel the pain receede. We take not being in pain far too much for granted.

Buildings can be very nice and even awe-inspiring, but they still pale in comparison to God! I was an agnostic, but faith has only been a positive and wonderful thing in my life. :)

I don't have "church clothes"...in fact I haven't worn a suit in 20 years (at least).

When I go to church, I wear the same stuff I do at home. Which usually means Yankees or Mets gear.

srsly, I'm not trying to be a slob or anything like that. If my church's building was especially historic or elaborate, I'd probably wear appropriate clothing. But we are pretty casual in that regard.

The way I see it is...God cares more about what's in my heart than the clothes I'm wearing.

I've never been mistaken for being religious, but I adore the architecture and artwork from European churches and cathedrals.

I’m in the same group, I like stopping at famous churches for tourism because the architecture is just so beautiful.

School vacation week = Easy commutes
