If shit is written by the actual showrunners/show writers maybe for once we can just consider it canon until otherwise contradicted?
That is the way I see it but other dont which is there prerogative.

We may never find out either way.

Everything else in the comic fits apart I think from the Star itself which is now Romulus own home Star, the only part yet to be confirmed is the ship itself.

No reason was given for why Rafi was getting discharged just because Picard resigned, and she didn’t say “I’m being court martialed”, she said “Fired”.
Probably due to the writers of the show not knowing the nuances of the Uniform Code either. Or a colloquial choice that shouldn't be taken 100% literally.

Her initial introduction painted her as somewhat unhinged, going so far as pointing a weapon at Picard as he approached her home, and it wouldn't surprise me if she either told the Admiralty to go fuck themselves, or flat-out knock one of them on their ass. We don't know the specifics of what she did, but it was obviously enough to get her shitcanned back into civilian-land, and in a pretty rough state after all those years. Whatever happened, it took a severe toll.

Then again, we probably shouldn't tread too deeply into the whole "Starfleet is a Military" shitshow again. It clearly has similarities to what the Armed Services do today.

This is a dangerous declaration to make regarding Star Trek.
Some on the board have argued themselves silly over it in the past which is why they are so blunt about where they stand.

I prefer to keep my options open.

Watchable, but the weakest episode yet. I'm not sold on Raffi, although I liked that she lived in a space trailer in Vasquez Rocks.

Commodore Oh in sunglasses. It's like they're trying for memes.

Hugh seems bitter. Understandable considering everything.

Rios I like, but even more that he made his EMH look like him. I was kinda hoping he'd have an entire holographic crew and he'd play every part.

Loved the ex-Tal Shiar housekeepers having guns underneath every table in Chateau Picard:lol:

Curious what's next.

I haven't read the comic, and I had no problem with the way Laris and lots of shows slowly spread those kind of reveals about their characters out of over several episodes. Lost really took it's time revealing it's character's backgrounds.
Another good episode, this one got an 8 from me.
It was nice to see Hugh, I hope we find out a bit more about what he's been up to since TNG.
The stuff about Soji being The Destroyer, and her instant knowledge about the ex-Borg's history is definitely intriguing.
I liked getting the flashback to Picard and Raffi right after he they took his resignation, it was nice to see what their relationship was like then, before we saw how she reacted to him today. It was a bit surprising she was such a mess, it looks like getting kicked out of Starfleet really hit her hard.
The introduction to Rios was pretty good, the stuff with his emergency hologram was a highlight.
I'm finding myself a bit suspicious about Jurati and Oh's conversation. The fact that we didn't see the conversation, and only got what Jurati told Picard and the Romulans, makes me wonder if she's actually going to be spying for Oh.

It certainly seemed like Rafi’s termination was a consequence of Picard resigning. None of the real life discharge scenarios would be contingent on anything like that, no? Hence, bad writing.

It would apply if she was so pissed off at the situation that she grabbed one of them and dragged them across the table. Again, she seems to have some sharp edges. Probably wouldn't have taken much to send her into a tailspin if pushed into a corner. And we were never told the specifics of her meeting with them.

Belligerent Insubordination
Conduct unbecoming of an officer
Striking a superior officer

Yep - that could get her into some deep doo-doo, even in Starfleet.

Canon until it isn't = not canon.

When you listen to the actress talk about it she talks about being an aide and an intelligence officer but I do not get any sense that she plays it or is aware that she was a first officer on a starship with Picard.

It just is that some of us understand what words mean.

My thoughts on canon are, it’s important because Trek’s strongest attribute to me is the world building and it affects the world. Trek is a 50 year old collaborative project greater than the sum of its individual stories.

And to me, canon is something that exists in the collective imagination of the fans, not in a company’s IP rights.

If events in a comic book source are directly referenced in an on screen source, to me that makes it canon by contact.

Yeah, but she got the notice she was fired during the conversation with Picard, not after talking to them herself.

That to me is a misreading of that scene - she is "unhinged" *because* of what happened to her, it did not happen to her because she was unhinged.

Also her "firing" is fairly straight forward - you need a scapegoat - picard resigned and she carried the can.

Laris is easily the best character so far. I would prefer she and Zhaban be on the ship instead of looking after the grapes. But IMDB only lists her in 3 episodes and Zhaban in 4 this season. That's disappointing.
Shame I was hoping they didnt get on the ship because they have their own and would have followed him discreetly.

IMDB isnt always correct so we shall see, someone has to tell Riker whats going on and Picard wont do it.
